Job summary

HNL Lab Medicine seeks a capable phlebotomy support member to collect specimens, perform venipunctures, and assist with patient registration and order entry at our Trexlertown Health Center. The role includes platelet collections, specimen handling, and providing friendly patient service.

You may travel to nearby sites within 25 miles and support on-call coverage as needed. Qualifications include a high school diploma or GED and 6 months to 2 years of related experience, with Basic Life Support

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 1/2 year to 2 years related experience preferred.
• Basic Life Support certification required by American Heart Association (provided if needed).
• Ability to read, write and speak English; Spanish proficiency may be required depending on location.
• Reliable transportation to perform duties.

Responsibilities

• Collect clinical lab specimens and perform related tasks under supervision.
• Perform venipunctures and collect other specimens; explain collection procedures to patients.
• Register patients, requisition lab orders, and verify billing information.
• Process, store, and transport specimens per laboratory requirements.
• Provide logistical support and assist customers; maintain a tidy, compliant workspace.
• Travel to sites within 25 miles of base location as needed; participate in on-call/mobile services.

Job description

Work Schedule: 5:50am to 6:30pm Monday through Friday. Every other Saturday 6:30am to 3pm. Collects clinical laboratory specimens and performs tasks associated with patient registration, order entry and specimen processing with general supervision. Performs waived testing with general supervision. Provides logistical support to team members and general assistance to customers. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Performs venipunctures. Collects other specimens and explains the proper collection procedures for specimens provided by the patient. Clarifies orders and pre-analytical test requirements when appropriate. Performs registration; requisitions lab orders and verifies billing information. Process, store, and transport specimens according to the laboratory requirements. Actively promotes HNL Lab Medicine’s values and exhibits excellent customer relations in anticipating customer needs in all interactions. Maintains up-to-date knowledge of changes in specimen requirements and collection devices. Maintains an adequate inventory of supplies and ensures a meticulous work area. Assists in the orientation, training, and mentoring new staff members. Participates in the Continuous Service Improvement and continuing education programs. Properly records and documents necessary expense reimbursement (Mileage Reimbursement) following established electronic processes. Provides on-call and mobile service as required. Required to travel to sites within 25 miles other than base location as needed for coverage. Per Diem: Per diem work is determined by the departments need and the employee’s availability. Flexibility is an expectation of the per diem position.

Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Bilingual and able to read, write and speak Spanish proficiently may be required based on service location. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Word Processing software. Certificates and Licenses: Must be accessible to appropriate and reliable transportation to perform essential duties and responsibilities. Certification required by the American Heart Association for Basic Life Support to include adult, child and infant. Certification will be provided if needed.
