Job description

Title: Phlebotomist

Location: Long Beach, CA.

Department: OPSC Village CLIA Lab HemaOnc

Status: Full Time

Shift: Days (8 Hours)

Pay Range: $26.48/hr. - $38.40/hr.

Position Summary

The Phlebotomist is responsible for performing blood collection activities for the purpose of health assessment. The Phlebotomist also performs all activities, pre-analytic analysis, analytic analysis, and data management under the direction of a California Licensed Supervisor as defined in Chapter 3 of State of California Business and Professions Code.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Following appropriate procedures and protocols, performs whole blood collection activities for the purpose of laboratory testing and health assessment.
• Performs analytic functions where allowed by California Law.
• Performs venipuncture and finger stick specimen collection activities from pediatric and/or neonatal patient population for the purpose of health assessment.
• Ensures that equipment and safety devices are used appropriately following set guidelines.
• Performs data management activities and documentation.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

Qualifications/Work Experience

• Previous experience performing venipuncture on hospital-based patient populations preferred.
• Knowledge of specimen collection techniques, equipment, and specimen handling required.
• 4 years of experience in a pediatric setting required.

Education/Licensure/Certification

• Current California Phlebotomy Certificate is required or eligible for certification.
