Job summary

STGi is seeking a Phlebotomist to deliver phlebotomy services and provide administrative support at the Hopkinsville clinic. You will perform venipuncture, specimen processing, and front desk tasks as part of the CBOC team. The role requires attention to patient safety, strong communication, and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced clinic environment.

  • Current certification as a Phlebotomy Technician preferred but not required.
  • Proficient in medical terminology to understand test requests and results.
  • Knowledge of patient reactions and appropriate procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Perform full range of phlebotomy duties including venipuncture, finger-stick and heel-stick.
  • Conduct patient in-processing and provide guidance on paperwork before collection.
  • Assemble equipment and prepare for test requirements.
  • Verify patient identity and supervise blood collection activities.
  • Provide instructional and technical oversight for safe procedures.
  • Perform phlebotomy-related administrative tasks and maintain samples per SOPs.
  • Provide non-phlebotomy admin support across clinic areas as needed.
  • Instruct on specimen collection for special tests and age-specific techniques.
  • Recognize and manage patient reactions and provide post-phlebotomy care guidance.
  • Support unit operations with clerical and coordination tasks.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Phlebotomist

Location: 4000 Fort Campbell Blvd, Suite G-4, Hopkinsville, Kentucky

Job Summary

The general duty of the Phlebotomist is to provide phlebotomy services as well as administrative and clerical support for the Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC).

Essential Functions
  • Perform a full range of phlebotomy duties, including proper venipuncture, finger‑stick and heel‑stick procedures using appropriate techniques, and set‑up and completion of special test‑related phlebotomy procedures.
  • Conduct patient in‑processing prior to specimen collection, including review of paperwork and providing guidance and assistance.
  • Assemble equipment such as tourniquets, needles, disposable containers, blood collection devices, gauze, cotton and alcohol on work trays according to test requirements.
  • Verify or record patient or donor identity and converse to allay fear, conduct interviews, take vital signs, draw and test blood samples, and screen donors at a blood bank.
  • Provide technical oversight and training to ensure safe, sanitary, and expeditious invasive procedures performed in the laboratory.
  • Perform phlebotomy‑related administrative and clerical procedures, document all samples per standard operating procedures, and maintain supply inventory and cleanliness of the front desk and phlebotomy area.
  • Provide non‑phlebotomy administrative support in various clinic areas as needed (front desk, exam rooms, Telehealth, etc.).
  • Provide instruction on patient‑centered specimen collection (24‑hour urine, occult blood testing, semen analysis, etc.) and special requirements for laboratory‑collected specimens.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of all aspects of phlebotomy and collection of adequate clinical specimens, including age‑specific techniques for infants and the elderly.
  • Recognize and manage patient reactions such as syncope, vomiting, and unconsciousness, counseling patients on post‑phlebotomy care.
  • Provide general clerical/administrative support and coordination work for the unit.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
Required Skills
  • Prefer two (2) years of current clinical experience as a phlebotomist within the last three years.
  • Current certification as a Phlebotomy Technician from the American Society of Clinical Pathology (PBT‑ASCP) or the American Medical Technologist (RPT‑AMT) preferred but not required.
  • Possess knowledge of medical terminology to understand and communicate test requests and results.
  • Knowledge of patient reactions and appropriate procedures for such instances.
  • Exceptional diplomatic communication skills and experience handling difficult customer situations.
  • Detail‑oriented with the ability to multitask.
Required Education & Certifications
  • Retain current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) / Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) or Military Training Network (MTN).
Working Conditions / Physical Requirements
  • Moderate physical activity; handling average‑weight objects up to 25 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.
  • Typical interior/office work environment.
  • Required to respond to any medical emergency within the clinic.
