A phlebotomist is a trained supportive person who obtains venous, finger, heel punctures blood specimens for clinical laboratory examination. This staff member performs order entry functions in the laboratory computer system. They also process specimens which are drawn in the hospital as well as specimens received from our outpatient accounts. The compensation range for the role is $21.37–$27.05 hourly. Garnet Health System provides a compensation range to comply with the New York State law on salary transparency in job advertisements. The range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses, incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits. The determination of compensation may consider factors such as location, specialty, service line, years of relevant experience, education, credentials, negotiated contracts, budget and internal equity.
Minimum Education: High School Diploma or equivalent. Completion of phlebotomy course with at least 120 hours of clinical rotation in a medical arena or completion of phlebotomy course and appropriate experience of at least one year.
Minimum Experience: One year of recent phlebotomy experience preferred; new graduates will be considered with recommendation from instructor. Must demonstrate excellent phlebotomy skill and knowledge. Evening and night shift phlebotomists must have significant experience with all age groups.
Required Certification/Registration: ASCP certification preferred.
Physical Requirements: Position will primarily be light work requiring lifting up to 25 pounds with occasional lifting and/or carrying objects weighing up to 25 pounds. Occasional bending, twisting, stooping, kneeling and reaching is required. Requires 80% sitting and 20% standing or walking. Expressing or exchanging ideas by spoken word is required.
