Join Cleveland Clinic Weston Hospital’s team of caregivers that remain on the leading edge of technology and education all while consistently providing patient-centered healthcare. As part of Cleveland Clinic’s Florida region, Weston Hospital is recognized as one of the top hospitals in the Miami-Fort Lauderdale metro area and Florida. Here, you will work alongside passionate and dedicated caregivers, receive endless support and appreciation, and build a rewarding career with one of the most respected healthcare organizations in the world.

The Phlebotomist is an integral member of the medical laboratory team whose primary function is the collection of blood samples from patients. Phlebotomists also facilitate the collection and transportation of other laboratory specimens (e.g. urine). Very often the patient’s only contact with the medical laboratory is the phlebotomist. Many patients, from children and teens to adults, often find needles and the idea of having their blood drawn frightening. It takes a skilled Phlebotomist to put the patient at ease while obtaining all the required specimens.

A caregiver in this position works third shift 8:00pm—5:00am.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Collect blood, process specimens and perform reference laboratory processing in laboratory testing.
  • Perform related techniques, such as blood glucose tests and blood cultures.
  • Prepare samples for testing and manage specimens in the laboratory information system.
  • Prepare and ship reference laboratory specimens and resolve pending specimens and pending transports.
  • Monitor test ordering patients and requisitions to ensure compliance with outpatient laboratory testing.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Proficiency in blood collection from patients of all age groups

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • One year of college or equivalent
  • Six months of experience in phlebotomy and laboratory processing
