Job summary

SSM Health is seeking a Phlebotomist to collect and prepare blood specimens at facilities in Fond du Lac and nearby communities. The role includes venipuncture, sample handling, and occasional waived testing.

Education requirements include a high school diploma or 10 years of experience, with no prior experience required. A valid BLS certification is required. 40 hours per week; diverse duties support the laboratory and patient care teams.

Responsibilities

  • May perform waived testing.
  • May perform a variety of administrative duties to support the department.
  • Identifies patients using two identifiers.
  • Works in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Responsibilities and Requirements
Primary Responsibilities
  • Collects blood specimens by venipuncture and capillary technique and processes the samples according to laboratory guidelines.
  • Delivers samples to the laboratory in established time frames.
  • May perform waived testing.
  • May perform a variety of administrative duties to support the department.
  • Identifies patients using two identifiers.
  • Works in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.

Physical Requirements
  • Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0-25 lbs.
  • Frequent sitting, standing, walking, reaching and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements.
  • Frequent use of vision and depth perception for distances near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more) and to identify and distinguish colors.
  • Frequent use of hearing and speech to share information through oral communication. Ability to hear alarms, malfunctioning machinery, etc.
  • Frequent keyboard use/data entry.
  • Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting and gripping.
  • Occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 25-50 lbs.
  • Rare climbing.
