Trinity Health Chelsea Hospital is seeking a Phlebotomist to join the Inpatient Phlebotomy team. This full-time role offers a primary day shift starting at 7am, with flexible weekend coverage as described.

You will perform phlebotomy, specimen processing, and related pre-analytical tasks, ensuring accurate patient data and timely delivery to the lab. Equal opportunity employer with a large, faith-based health system.

Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent; completion of phlebotomy, medical assistant or patient care technician training.
  • Experience: Previous phlebotomy experience preferred if formal training and certification as a phlebotomist is not obtained.
  • Experience is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performs successful sample collection to include venipuncture, capillary puncture, infant heel sticks, and urine collection with proper patient identification.
  • Understands laboratory requisitions and locates missing or incomplete information.
  • Completes specimen handling and processing including centrifugation and aliquoting.
  • Aliquots and adjusts pH of 24-hour urine specimens as required by location.
  • Follows test cancellation policy and completes follow-up tasks.
  • Locates specimens for add-on testing.
  • Maintains minimum supply levels and keeps workstation clean.

Job Title: Phlebotomist

Department: Inpatient Phlebotomy

Location: Chelsea Hospital

Status: Full time, 40 hours a week

Shift: Primary day shift with 7am start time, 8 hour shifts. Afternoon shift on weekends with 1pm start.

Performs phlebotomy, specimen receipt, processing, specimen distribution, computer order entry and/or requisition completion, and other pre-analytical tasks as required. Tracks specimens through appropriate computer functions when available, to ensure that all specimens are routed accurately and in a timely manner. Assures complete and accurate patient samples, patient demographics, and diagnosis codes are provided, and submits to the laboratory for testing.

Required Qualifications

  • Understands laboratory requisitions and how to locate missing or incomplete information.
  • Completes specimen handling and processing including centrifugation of vacutainer and aliquoting/pouring over of specimens.
  • Aliquots and adjusts pH of 24-hour urine specimens as required by location.
  • Follows test cancellation policy and completes follow-up tasks as needed.
  • Locates specimens for add-on testing.
  • Maintains minimum supply levels and maintains cleanliness of workstation and of the section.
