Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a dedicated phlebotomist to perform routine and complex blood collection procedures in outpatient settings, including venipuncture, finger and heel sticks, and blood cultures. You will verify patient IDs, enter orders in Epic Prelude, and collect across all ages, providing containers and instructions to patients.

The role requires BLS, a high school diploma or GED, and 6 months phlebotomy experience or completion of Carle Phlebotomy in Training.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 6 months phlebotomy experience or completion of Carle Phlebotomy in Training Program.
• BLS certification within 30 days of start.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced outpatient setting.
• Must complete accreditation and proficiency testing and annual performance competencies.
• Must participate in re-education or re-training as needed.
• Must follow laboratory and organizational policies and procedures.
• Full-time schedule: five 8-hour shifts per week, Mon-Fri, 6:15 a.m.-6:00 p.m.
• Every other Saturday, 7:45 a.m.-12:00 p.m.
• 1-2 on-call shifts per week.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine and complex blood collection procedures, including venipuncture, finger and heel sticks, and blood cultures
• Verify patient identification and specimen labeling using two identifiers
• Perform point-of-care testing, specimen processing, and 12-lead EKGs in ambulatory settings
• Register patients and enter laboratory orders into Epic Prelude and the Epic computer system
• Collect specimens from newborn through geriatric patients in outpatient settings
• Provide patients with collection containers and instructions
• Perform specialized blood collection for commercial laboratories and research
• Perform blood cultures using Chloroprep skin decontamination and coordinate port collections with nurses when needed
• Troubleshoot test-result or instrument-function problems and seek assistance from supervisors or leads
• Process specimens according to testing requirements, including light protection, refrigeration, centrifugation, freezing, and temperature-controlled storage
• Participate in accreditation, proficiency testing, competency testing, re-education, and re-training
• Maintain familiarity with and document review of laboratory and organizational policies and procedures
• Communicate accurately, timely, effectively, and professionally with internal and external customers
• Collect approximately 50-200 patients per business day depending on lab location
• Work at South Clinic Lab, Heart and Vascular Institute Lab, and Curtis, Windsor, Rantoul, and Mahomet Labs
