Job summary

didgwalic Wellness Center is seeking a patient-focused Phlebotomist to join our integrated care clinic offering MOUD, primary care, and behavioral health. The role emphasizes compassionate, patient-centered specimen collection and timely access to care.

The Phlebotomist will perform venipuncture, processing, and point-of-care testing, maintain specimen integrity, and document in the EHR while adhering to HIPAA and CLIA requirements. Monday–Friday, 6am–2pm, on-site in Anacortes.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Phlebotomy certification required.
  • Prior phlebotomy experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of drawing blood and specimen handling.

The didgwalic Wellness Center is seeking a patient-focused Phlebotomist to join our integrated care clinic that combines primary care, behavioral health, and opiate treatment all in one place. Job Summary

The Phlebotomist supports didgwalic Wellness Center by providing compassionate patient-centered specimen collection services for Medication for Opioid Use Disorder (MOUD), primary care and chronic disease management. As a member of the interdisciplinary care team, the Phlebotomist performs venipuncture, specimen processing and point-of-care testing while promoting patient safety, timely access to care and positive health outcomes through high-quality clinical support.

Duties/Responsibilities
  • Verify patient identity using approved patient identifiers and explain specimen collection procedures.
  • Collect blood specimens through venipuncture and capillary (finger-stick) collection using established clinical procedures.
  • Collect, process, label, package, and prepare blood, urine, and other specimens for in-house testing or reference laboratory transport.
  • Ensure specimen quality, integrity, and chain of custody requirements are maintained.
  • Perform point-of-care and CLIA-waived laboratory testing within scope of practice and clinic policy.
  • Perform electrocardiograms (EKGs) and other assigned clinical support procedures.
  • Accurately document specimen collection, laboratory testing, and related patient information in the electronic health record (EHR).
  • Complete laboratory requisitions and prepare specimens for transport in accordance with laboratory and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment by performing routine maintenance, quality control, and reporting equipment malfunctions.
  • Monitor laboratory inventory and order supplies as needed to support clinic operations.
  • Follow infection prevention standards, OSHA Bloodborne Pathogen Standards, CLIA requirements, and clinic safety policies.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2, and applicable federal, state, Tribal, and organizational regulations.
  • Provide compassionate, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive care throughout the specimen collection process.
  • Collaborate with providers and clinical staff to support timely, coordinated, and patient-centered care.
  • Cross-train and assist with other clinical duties as assigned to support daily operations.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, competency assessments, and required education and training.
  • Complete accurate and timely documentation to meet clinical, regulatory, accreditation, and reimbursement requirements.
  • Maintain professional conduct and adhere to all didgwalic Wellness Center policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Nursing Manager.
Qualifications
Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Knowledge of legal requirements pertaining to drawing blood, handling specimen samples, and the use of relevant medical equipment.
  • Knowledge of testing protocols and the use of testing equipment.
  • Keen attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of substance use disorder and its effects on individuals, families, and communities is required.
  • In-depth knowledge of Electronic Health Records (EHRs) and health-related computer software applications.
  • Strong computer and software experience using MS Office products.
  • Ability to work in a cross-culture environment, understands the social and cultural context of the patients at the didgwalic Wellness Center. Understanding the role of trauma, historical, community, family, and personal in wellness and recovery.
  • Understands and adheres to state (RCW, WAC) and federal confidentiality regulations (42 CFR part 2).
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and customer service skills.
Education And Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Phlebotomy certification required.
  • Previous experience working as a phlebotomist preferred.
  • Previous education or experience in a health-related field helpful.
Physical Requirements
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Prolonged periods of standing and bending.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
  • Frequent exposure to chemicals, bloodborne pathogens, and patient body fluids.
