IslandWood is seeking a Philanthropy Officer to build meaningful donor relationships, grow contributed revenue, and advance our mission across environment, education, and justice. This full-time role identifies, cultivates, solicits, and stewards individual, corporate, and community supporters while fostering a strong culture of fundraising.

Based on Bainbridge Island with a hybrid schedule (3 days in office, 1 remote), the position offers competitive pay in the range of $29.60–$33.00 per hour

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
• Three or more years of nonprofit fundraising, donor relations, or related experience.
• Ability to build authentic relationships with donors, volunteers, board members, colleagues, and community partners.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for storytelling and donor asks.
• Experience using donor databases and CRM systems.
• Excellent organization and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a mission-driven environment.
• Commitment to equity and donor stewardship.
• Availability for occasional evening or weekend events and local travel.

Responsibilities

• Develop and manage a portfolio of 100+ current and prospective corporate and individual donors.
• Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward donors.
• Support pipeline management for major gifts by tracking prospects and steps.
• Create and implement donor engagement plans including meetings and events.
• Prepare proposals and donor communications with leadership.
• Represent the organization at donor meetings and fundraising activities.
• Maintain donor records in the CRM and track revenue outcomes.
• Collaborate with program, finance, and communications teams.
• Ensure donor confidentiality and ethical fundraising practices.

The Philanthropy Officer is a full-time member of the Philanthropy team responsible for building meaningful donor relationships, growing contributed revenue, and advancing the organization’s mission through strategic fundraising. This role focuses on identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding individuals, corporate, and community supporters while helping create a strong culture of philanthropy across the organization.

Pay Range: $29.60 to $33.00

Paid Time off annual benefit:

IslandWood offers 3 weeks paid vacation, floating holidays, 10 annual paid holidays (paid if applicable during contract period) and 80 hours of paid annual sick leave.Prorated based on date of hire and length of service.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and manage a portfolio of 100+ current and prospective corporate and individual donors, with an emphasis on deepening relationships and increasing philanthropic support.


• Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward individual donors, corporate partners, and community supporters.


• Support pipeline management for the major gifts program by tracking prospects, next steps, solicitation stages, expected revenue, and follow-up actions.


• Create and implement personalized donor engagement plans, including meetings, tours, calls, written updates, event invitations, and meaningful follow-up.


• Develop resources for the major gifts team, including proposals, impact reports, donor briefings, stewardship materials, and other customized communications.


• Prepare compelling proposals, donor communications, stewardship reports, and other fundraising materials in partnership with leadership and communications staff.


• Support major gifts, corporate sponsorships, planned giving, and special fundraising initiatives as needed.


• Represent the organization at donor meetings and fundraising activities.


• Maintain accurate and timely donor records, contact reports, next steps, pledges, and gift information in the donor database or CRM.


• Track progress toward fundraising goals and provide regular updates on donor activity, pipeline development, solicitations, and revenue outcomes.


• Collaborate with program, finance, and communication teams to align donor interests with organizational priorities.


• Support prospect research
  and tracking of donor cultivation and stewardship activities.


• Ensure donor confidentiality, ethical fundraising practices, and compliance with applicable policies and regulations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience preferred.


• Three or more years of nonprofit fundraising, donor relations, or related experience preferred.


• Demonstrated ability to build authentic relationships and communicate effectively with donors, volunteers, board members, colleagues, and community partners.


• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to tell compelling stories and make a clear case for support.


• Experience using donor databases, CRM systems, Microsoft Office, and online fundraising tools.


• Excellent organization, follow-through, discretion, and attention to detail.


• Comfort with fundraising goals, donor meetings, solicitation conversations, and performance metrics.


• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a mission-driven environment.


• Commitment to equity, inclusion, confidentiality, ethical fundraising, and respectful donor stewardship.


• Availability for occasional evening or weekend events and local travel as needed
