Qualifications

• Working toward a PhD in Sensory Science, Consumer Science, Food Science, Behavioral Science, Psychology, Neuroscience, or a closely related field.
• Strong foundation in emotion or emotional response measurement.
• Experience in consumer research, human-subject research, and experimental design.
• Experience with descriptive sensory analysis or sensory lexicon development.
• Proficiency with JMP, R, Python, SAS, SPSS, or similar tools.
• Availability for a 12-week internship May/June–August 2027, on-site in Mason 3–4 days/week.

Responsibilities

• Develop a fit-for-purpose framework for measuring emotional responses to oral care experiences.
• Design and execute a proof-of-concept human-subject study using sensory, consumer, behavioral, or mixed methods.
• Analyze and integrate quantitative and qualitative data to evaluate the approach.
• Link sensory experiences and emotional responses to consumer behavior and product performance.
• Translate findings into clear, actionable recommendations for product development and innovation.
• Independently manage the research program from study design to final recommendations.
• Collaborate with technical and business partners and communicate findings effectively.
