Job summary

AMD seeks a PhD Photonics & Optical Systems Engineering Intern/Co-Op to advance next‑gen optical interconnects and high‑speed networks for AI infrastructure. You will contribute to photonic IC design, simulation, validation, and lab testing within a multidisciplinary team.

Ideal candidates are pursuing a PhD in photonics/optics with experience in silicon PICs, transceivers, and high‑speed signaling, and proficient in Python/MATLAB. Hybrid/onsite 40‑hour weeks, duration per term.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a PhD in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Photonics, or related field.
• Experience or coursework in silicon photonics, optical transceivers, and high-speed interconnects.
• Familiarity with Python, MATLAB, and lab instrumentation like oscilloscopes or BER testers.

Responsibilities

• Support design, simulation, validation, and characterization of photonic ICs and transceivers.
• Contribute to laboratory testing and performance analysis of optical/electrical systems.
• Assist in data collection, automation, modeling, and analysis to improve design.
• Work on photonic device characterization, optical communications, or high-speed interconnects.
• Collaborate with photonics, electrical, systems, and validation engineers to solve challenges.
• Document findings and contribute to technical reports and presentations.
