Job summary

AMD is offering a Summer Internship/Co-op in ML Systems Research Engineering at its Santa Clara campus. You will work full-time in a hybrid or onsite setting, contributing to distributed training, model optimization, and AI infrastructure across several ML workflows.

The role targets PhD candidates in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, or AI, with Python and PyTorch experience, and an interest in distributed systems and AI tooling. Visa sponsorship is not available.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a PhD in a relevant field.
• Coursework or hands-on experience in AI or computer systems.
• Familiarity with PyTorch or similar frameworks.

Responsibilities

• Develop and optimize infrastructure for distributed training, reinforcement learning, inference, and model optimization.
• Build scalable systems for experiment management, rollout generation, model serving, and evaluation.
• Improve training and inference efficiency through parallelism, scheduling, and caching.
• Develop tools that integrate AI models with engineering systems and evaluation pipelines.
• Support experiment tracking, logging, and reproducibility across ML workflows.
• Analyze system performance and identify reliability and scalability improvements.
• Collaborate with researchers to translate requirements into production infrastructure.
• Document system designs and experimental results.
