Job summary

Exponent is seeking a Manager for the Materials Science & Electrochemistry Practice. The role spans the US, focusing on investigations of materials performance, degradation, and failure across diverse industries.

You will lead multidisciplinary teams, mentor staff, nurture client relationships, and contribute to growth through project leadership, data interpretation, and rigorous reporting. Travel to client sites will be required as needed.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Materials Science or closely related field.
• Minimum 5 years of consulting experience in materials science.
• Proven ability to develop and nurture client relationships.
• Experience with product safety, recalls, construction defects, IP or related claims is a plus.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to communicate complex data clearly.
• Leadership experience managing a small team (2–5).
• Project management to coordinate tasks, timelines and deliverables.

Responsibilities

• Apply materials science expertise to investigations on material performance, degradation and failure.
• Build and nurture client relationships to drive project growth.
• Contribute to consulting business growth through project work and client engagement.
• Coordinate laboratory testing and data analysis using SEM, EDS, FTIR, XRD and electrochemical methods.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver rigorous, actionable findings.
• Prepare high-quality reports and presentations for technical and non-technical audiences.
• Support project planning, execution and travel for client meetings or lab work.
• Mentor junior staff and foster a collaborative team environment.
