Job summary

Exponent is seeking a talented and motivated Manager with consulting experience to join our Materials Science & Electrochemistry Practice. This position is open across U.S.

office locations and will partner with senior staff and subject matter experts on multidisciplinary investigations. You will coordinate laboratory testing (SEM, EDS, FTIR, XRD, EIS) and deliver high-quality technical reports while mentoring junior staff and building strong client relationships.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Materials Science or closely related field.
• Minimum 5 years of consulting experience in materials science.
• Proven ability to build and nurture client relationships and expand projects.
• Strong analytical and communication skills; able to convey complex concepts clearly.
• Experience leading a small team (2–5) and coordinating multidisciplinary work.

Responsibilities

• Apply materials science expertise to investigations involving material performance, degradation, and failure across industries.
• Build and nurture meaningful client relationships to drive project growth.
• Coordinate laboratory testing and analysis (SEM, EDS, FTIR, XRD, EIS, cyclic voltammetry).
• Prepare high-quality technical reports and presentations communicating findings to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Mentor junior staff and contribute to professional development of the team.
• Support project planning and ensure successful execution of technical projects.
