Job summary

Stripe is seeking a data science intern to join the Fraud, Losses, and Financial Crime Data Science team. You will apply ML and statistical methods to protect Stripe and its users, build models, run experiments, and deliver actionable insights under mentorship.

You will work with engineers and data scientists across Stripe to develop data pipelines, dashboards, and reports, and present findings that inform product decisions and risk controls.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in a quantitative PhD program with expected graduation in Dec 2027 or Spring/Summer 2028.
• Experience with SQL and a scientific computing language (Python, R, etc.).
• Proficiency with AI tools to accelerate model development, analysis, and coding.
• Experience communicating and collaborating with multidisciplinary stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Apply probability distributions, statistical inference, and hypothesis testing to quantify uncertainty and evaluate outcomes.
• Use Python or R for data analysis, processing, visualizations, and modeling.
• Build, train, and evaluate predictive models for regression and classification.
• Model temporal dependencies and time-series forecasts.
• Identify patterns, clusters, and outliers in unlabeled data.
• Deploy models in production and adjust thresholds to improve performance.
• Design, run, and analyze experiments using causal inference designs.
• Use SQL and Spark to transform and analyze large datasets.
• Learn and communicate status of work effectively with mentor and team.
• Present work to Data Science and partner teams.
