Job Summary

The PHC Technician is responsible for ensuring the health and aesthetic quality of all ornamental shrubs, trees, and turf through proper horticultural practices.

Supervisory Responsibilities
  • None
Duties/Responsibilities
  • Plant and maintain plants, including removing weeds, fertilizing, watering shrubs and trees
  • Use hand tools and gardening equipment
  • Harvest, transplant, or pot plants with proper labels
  • Monitor plant health for insects or diseases
  • Operate tractors, machinery, and fertilizing equipment
  • Cultivate, harvest, and spray fields and plants
  • Inspect plants for quality
  • Dig, cut, and transplant seedlings, cuttings, trees, and shrubs
  • Move containerized plants using wheelbarrows or tractors
  • Maintain grounds and clean work areas
  • Spread topsoil, fertilizer, peat moss, and other materials
  • Maintain and repair irrigation and climate control systems
  • Apply fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides safely and in compliance with regulations
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or GED and 1+ years of retail sales or equivalent experience
  • At least 1 year of experience with chemical or spray applications or 4+ years in the green industry
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Pesticide applicator license or in process
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Commitment to safety policies
Physical Requirements
  • Constantly talk, hear, see, sit, stand, walk
  • Good near, distance, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment
  • Use hands to manipulate objects and tools
  • Reach, bend, twist, stoop, crouch, climb, and maintain balance frequently
  • Lift and carry up to 50 pounds
  • Work outdoors in all weather conditions and with mechanical objects
  • Occasionally exposed to fumes, airborne particles, chemicals, loud noise
