EVONA is seeking a Phased Array Unit Lead in the Austin, TX / Westminster, CO area. You will own the technical direction of electronically steered phased-array antenna systems, acting as Principal-level Electrical Engineer with hands-on RF design and cross-disciplinary leadership.

You will guide architecture, be responsible for end-to-end product ownership, collaborate with RF, antenna, mechanical, and software teams, engage with customers, and drive design reviews and product execution while

Phased Array Unit Lead | Aerospace & Defence | Austin, TX / Westminster, CO

We’re looking for a Phased Array Unit Lead to take technical ownership of the development of advanced electronically steered phased-array antenna systems.

This is a senior technical leadership opportunity for a Principal-level Electrical Engineer who has progressed naturally into technical leadership and wants to remain close to the engineering, architecture and product.

You’ll own the technical development of the product from concept through execution, working across RF, antenna, mechanical, software and other engineering disciplines.

What you’ll be responsible for

• Own the technical direction and development of phased-array products
• Provide end-to-end product and technical ownership
• Lead engineering execution from architecture through product development
• Coordinate and guide multidisciplinary engineering teams
• Work closely with Lead Engineers and technical specialists
• Translate customer requirements into technical solutions
• Lead system architecture, block diagrams and hardware integration
• Drive technical decisions, design reviews and product execution
• Engage directly with customers on technical matters
• Support successful product development and delivery
• Collaborate across RF, electrical, mechanical and software engineering

This role is heavily focused on RF and antenna technology, including:

• RF Systems
• RF Signal Chains
• Phased Array Systems
• Beamforming
• Beam Steering Hardware
• Microwave Electronics
• PCB Design
• Hardware Integration

Unlike a digital-heavy electronics role, this position is primarily focused on the RF-to-antenna side of the technology spectrum, with minimal emphasis on high-speed digital computing.

What we're looking for

The ideal candidate will have approximately 8–14 years of engineering experience, with 10–12 years being the sweet spot.

You’ll ideally be:

• A Principal / Staff Electrical Engineer or equivalent
• A hands-on RF/electronics engineer with board-design experience
• Experienced in owning complete electronic systems at box level
• Comfortable working across multiple engineering disciplines
• Experienced in RF systems, phased arrays or advanced antenna technology
• Technically strong enough to make architecture and design decisions
• Comfortable leading small technical teams
• Able to coordinate Lead Engineers and multidisciplinary teams
• Confident engaging directly with customers
• Strong in technical communication and presentation
• Comfortable balancing hands-on engineering with technical leadership

This is not a traditional people-management role. We’re looking for a technical leader with a Chief Engineer mindset — someone who can lead through technical expertise, ownership and influence while remaining close to the engineering.

Experience in space, aerospace or defence is highly relevant, particularly backgrounds involving:

• Phased-array systems
• Defence electronics
• Microwave electronics
• SDR / communications hardware
• VPX-based electronics

Strong candidates may come from organisations such as Raytheon, BAE Systems, Lockheed Martin, L3Harris, Northrop Grumman, SpaceX, Ball Aerospace, Blue Origin, Sierra Space, York Space, Maxar, Rocket Lab, Firefly Aerospace, Johns Hopkins APL and other companies working in advanced RF, antenna and aerospace electronics.

Space experience is preferred, but strong airborne and defence electronics experience can transfer well.
