Job summary

Scotland Health Care System in Laurinburg, NC's Scotland Retail Pharmacy – Pembroke unit seeks a Pharmacy Technician for a full-time role. The technician will assist pharmacists with IV admixture, dispensing, and stock management across patient care units.

Requirements include a Pharmacy Technician Certification Board certification, a high school diploma or equivalent, and 1 year hospital or 2 years retail experience. BS degree preferred at hire.

• 1 year hospital experience or 2 years retail experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist pharmacists in verifying active ingredients before IV admixture.
• Set up, package, dispense and deliver medications per procedures.
• Replenish drugs and manage stock on patient care units; maintain records for narcotics.
• Stock supplies and assist in inventory; document discontinuations or returns.
• Train new technicians and assist in performance improvement activities.

Job Description:

Medications issued from the pharmacy must be admixed correctly. The following step must be adhered to:
1.The Technician calls for an RPh to verify the active ingredient(s) / diluent prior to the drug(s) being added to the IV bag.
2.Set up, package, dispense and deliver unit/multi-dose medication in accordance with standard procedures and techniques; mix prescribed drugs with intravenous solutions and prefill syringes under supervision of a pharmacist.
3.Replenish drugs and other pharmaceutical supplies on patient care units; keep records on narcotics and control drug distribution.
4.Set up, prepare and package standard bulk formulations as directed.
5.Stock supplies and assist in taking inventory.
6.Retrieve discontinued or expired medications from stock & patient care areas; discard or return to stock as appropriate, complete corresponding documentation.
7.Serve as a training resource for new technicians & assist in evaluating their progress as directed.
8.Assist in documentation of performance improvement activities under Pharmacists’ direction & review.
9.Assist other technicians in performing procedures & completing tasks.
10.Respond appropriately to phone inquires and follow up appropriately. For example, taking small phone when leaving department to stock Omnicells or other tasks.
11.Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
12.Meet 797 annual requirements sufficiently and in a timely manner.
13.Scans barcodes into Paragon before new medications are added to pharmacy stock.
14.Barcodes must be scanned into Omnicell before medications may be added to Omnicells.
