Job summary

UPMC Senior Communities is seeking a Pharmacy Technician, Trainee to support pharmaceutical care across the health system. You will assist with organization, stocking, preparation, and distribution of medications under direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist.

This full-time role (40 hours/week) on the evening shift (2:30 PM–11:00 PM) includes every other weekend and at least two holidays per year, with a $5,000 sign-on bonus for qualified candidates and opportunities for growth within the

Qualifications

• Completion of high school diploma or equivalent.
• Registered as a Pharmacy Trainee with the State Board of Pharmacy (Must be completed prior to starting employment).
• Driver's License.
• Act 34.

Responsibilities

• Fill medication orders with proper labeling, counting, and stocking procedures.
• Prepare oral medications for the correct patient with proper timing and techniques.
• Participate in medication distribution in accordance with policies and regulations.
• Maintain documentation and ensure medication storage complies with health regulations.

Job description

The Pharmacy Technician, Trainee provides pharmaceutical care to patients within the UPMC Health System by assisting with the organization, stocking, preparation, and distribution of medications under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist.

This is a full-time position working40hoursperweekontheeveningshift(2:30PMto11:00PM). The schedule includeseveryotherweekend and a minimum oftwoholidaysperyear.

Responsibilities

Filling

• Assist with filling medication orders using proper labeling, counting, and stocking procedures. Initial and date products as required.
• Assist in preparing oral medications for the correct patient to ensure administration at the appropriate time while following proper medication preparation techniques.

Distribution

• Participate in medication distribution, including medication cassettes, emergency medication carts, and controlled substance deliveries in accordance with department policies and state and federal regulations.
• Retrieve discontinued medications and return them to the appropriate pharmacy area, processing credits when necessary.
• Maintain positive and professional service relationships throughout the medication distribution process.

General

• Communicate effectively with hospital personnel, patients, and visitors by telephone, in person, or in writing. Refer all drug information questions to a pharmacist.
• Ensure medications are stored safely and securely in accordance with Department of Health, The Joint Commission, and State Board of Pharmacy requirements.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and adequately stocked work environment.
• Practice proper hand hygiene in both the pharmacy and patient care areas.
• Utilize pharmacy computer systems to process and maintain patient information and records.
• Maintain required documentation, including eyewash station logs, refrigerator temperature logs, perpetual inventory logs, and other records as needed.
• Complete point-of-sale transactions and follow established cash-handling procedures.
• Comply with all applicable federal and state laws and regulations, including HIPAA, OSHA, CMS, FWA, and PBM requirements.
• Perform responsibilities in accordance with system-wide competencies and behaviors.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
