UPMC Chartwell in Oakdale, PA seeks a Full Time Pharmacy Technician Trainee to join a team delivering pharmaceutical care within the UPMC Health System. The role covers sterile and nonsterile preparation, labeling, dispensing, and documentation in compliance with regulatory standards.

Requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent, with Pennsylvania-specific trainee registration. Eligible candidates may benefit from a $5K sign-on bonus if applicable.

Qualifications

  • Completion of a high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • For Pharmacy Technician Trainee: registration as a Pharmacy Trainee with the PA State Board of Pharmacy is required for Pennsylvania locations.
  • For Pharmacy Technician: completion of an accredited pharmacy technician program, or six months of pharmacy technician experience, or six months as a Pharmacy Assistant within the UPMC Health System, or enrollment in an undergraduate pharmacy program in good standing.

Responsabilités

  • Assist in filling medication orders through labeling, counting, stocking, and documentation practices.
  • Support preparation of medications for correct patient and administration time, using proper technique and safety standards.
  • Participate in medication distribution including cassettes, carts, controlled substances, unit stock, and automated dispensing systems.
  • Retrieve discontinued medications and return or credit them to the appropriate area.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and adequately stocked work areas.
  • Provide information to hospital personnel, patients, and visitors by phone, in person, or in writing, referring drug information questions to a pharmacist.
  • Ensure medications are stored safely and securely according to regulatory requirements.
  • Use pharmacy computer systems to process and maintain patient information, inventory, and records.
  • Maintain logs, inventory records, and other pharmacy records.
  • Comply with federal and state laws including HIPAA, OSHA, CMS, and fraud, waste, and abuse requirements.
  • Assist with inventory management, automated systems, emergency boxes, crash carts, and QA activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

UPMC Chartwell is seeking a Full Time Pharmacy Technician/Trainee, to join their dedicated team in Oakdale!

The Pharmacy Technician provides pharmaceutical care to patients within the UPMC Health System by assisting with the sterile and nonsterile medication preparation, medication filling, and medication distribution. The Pharmacy Technician, Associate services are provided in compliance with Department of Health, The Joint Commission, and State Board of Pharmacy regulations.

This position works a schedule that rotates weekly and includes daylight and evening shifts. Week 1 consists of either 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. or 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. shifts, and Week 2 consists of 12:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. shifts. Employees work every third weekend and are required to work one major and one minor holiday each year.

Responsibilities:

Assist in filling medication orders through accurate labeling, counting, stocking, and documentation practices.

Support the preparation of medications for the correct patient and appropriate administration time, using proper technique and following all applicable safety standards.

Participate in medication distribution, including medication cassettes, emergency medication carts, controlled substances, unit stock, automated dispensing machines, and other pharmacy areas as assigned.

Retrieve discontinued medications and return or credit them to the appropriate pharmacy area when needed.

Maintain clean, organized, and adequately stocked work areas.

Provide information to hospital personnel, patients, and visitors by phone, in person, or in writing, while referring all drug information questions to a pharmacist.

Ensure medications are safely and securely stored according to regulatory and departmental requirements.

Use pharmacy computer systems to process and maintain patient information, inventory, and required records.

Maintain required documentation, including logs, inventory records, and other pharmacy records.

Comply with applicable federal and state laws and regulations, including HIPAA, OSHA, CMS, and fraud, waste, and abuse requirements.

Assist with inventory management, automated medication systems, emergency boxes, crash carts, and departmental quality improvement activities as assigned.

Perform other duties as assigned and in accordance with system-wide competencies and behaviors.

Qualifications:
Pharmacy Technician Trainee:

Completion of a high school diploma or equivalent is required. This title is intended for candidates with no previous pharmacy experience. For Pennsylvania locations, registration as a Pharmacy Trainee with the State Board of Pharmacy is required.

Pharmacy Technician:

Completion of a high school diploma or equivalent is required, along with one of the following: completion of an accredited pharmacy technician program; six months of previous pharmacy technician experience; six months of experience as a Pharmacy Assistant within the UPMC Health System; or enrollment in an undergraduate pharmacy program in good standing.

Licensure, Registration, and Certification

PA State Board of Pharmacy registration is required for all Pennsylvania locations. If an individual has a Pharmacy Intern license, they do not need to register with the State of Pennsylvania. Registration requirements are dependent on the state in which the employee works. Additional business unit criteria may apply, such as a valid driver's license and automobile insurance.
