Responsibilities

General Summary: Trains and participates in inventory management, storage, preparation, and delivery of medications. Triages phone calls, handles medication requests, and defers clinical decisions to a pharmacist. Communicates effectively with colleagues, customers, patients, and hospital staff. Prepares for and passes the PTCB Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam to become certified.

Essential Functions
  • Medication storage and inventory management
  • Stocking medication areas, including automated systems
  • Rotating stock, checking expiration dates, removing expiring medications
  • Customer service activities
  • Effective communication with staff and patients
  • Handling medication requests and troubleshooting
  • Maintaining patient confidentiality
  • Preparing for PTCB Certification through the PTU program
  • Completing training, rotations, and coursework
  • Participating in medication delivery and preparation activities
Minimum Education & Experience
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Experience in healthcare preferred
Licenses & Certifications
  • Enrolled in URMC PTTP or certified via an alternative method within 180 days
  • PHAR-C - Certified Pharmacy Tech via PTCB within 180 days
