Position Summary

The Pharmacy Technician Specialist advances the mission of the Pharmacy Department by providing a high-quality service resource via unique or specialized pharmacy tasks. They work in a partnership role with Pharmacists and Pharmacy leaders to bring a greater amount of focus to bear on support of mission critical areas where staff are uniquely trained or authorized. The Pharmacy Technician Specialist carries out technical aspects of safe medication preparation for the treatment of patients under the supervision of a Pharmacist or Specialist. This individual is also responsible for administrative responsibilities for the assigned area, such as pharmacy record keeping and inventory control in collaboration with a Pharmacist or Specialist. Other medication management and patient and family assistance duties will be assigned, according to the specialty area. The Pharmacy Technician Specialist will work jointly with others to conduct audits and analyses in assigned areas of responsibility to ensure compliance and risk mitigation. Findings are reported to pharmacy leadership for gap analysis and process improvement recommendations. Staff in this position are comfortable with autonomy. Location (e.g. remote or on‑site): On-site. For some roles, remote work may be appropriate.

Qualifications:

License/Certification/Registration:

• *Registered Pharmacy Technician in the state of Minnesota (required)
• *Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) within 1 year of hire (required)

Education:

• *Associate or higher college graduate degree, or foreign equivalent, or five years of experience in a pharmacy environment or healthcare industry (required)

Experience:

• *Three years working in a pharmacy environment or a combination of equivalent experience suitable for preparation of the individual to work within the specialized pharmacy service (required)
• *Experience working within a pharmacy computer system or electronic health record (required)
• *Leadership experience (preferred)

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
