Job summary

Northwell Health in Plainview, NY is seeking a part-time Pharmacy Technician to support medication preparation, packaging, and dispensing in a hospital pharmacy. You will help maintain prescriptions, recordkeeping, and inventory while assisting the Registered Pharmacist with non-professional tasks.

Responsibilities include filling unit-dose carts, labeling and stocking medications, and assisting in sterile compounding and IV preparation as needed.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
• Graduate of a recognized Pharmacy Technician Training Program OR equivalent hospital pharmacy experience is required.
• Current national certification through PTCB/NHA is required when hired on/after 3/1/21.
• Current NYS license as a registered pharmacy technician is required when hired on/after 4/25/21.
• Minimum of two years experience as a Pharmacy Technician; hospital pharmacy experience with a computerized system is preferred.
• Ability to learn computerized hospital pharmacy system; ability to do physically strenuous work.

Responsibilities

• Assist Registered Pharmacist in non-professional aspects of preparing and dispensing medication.
• Fill, package, label and stock unit dose carts; deliver to nursing units according to schedule.
• Fill bottles or other package forms with measured amounts of medication.
• Label containers of drugs according to department specifications.
• Assist in sterile compounding and labeling injectable prescriptions where required.
• Prepare and/or label IV additives as needed.
• Fill medication orders in inpatient area.
• Extemporaneous medication packaging when required.
• Maintain records and reports under pharmacist direction.
• Maintain IV records and medication records in inpatient areas.
• Maintain records of preparation of extemporaneous medications.
• Assist in maintaining statistics and records for all medication orders.
• Enter refill orders into computer terminal.
• Maintain inventory at workstations and transport materials as necessary.
• Receive and maintain records of stock and inventory control.
• Maintain daily inventory to ensure efficient pharmacy operations.
• Perform related duties as required.

Job Description

Variable shift 3; every other weekend; holidays as assigned

Assists in the preparation, manufacturing and repackaging of medications. Assists in maintaining records and reports. Maintains sufficient inventories at workstations.

Job Responsibility

• Assists Registered Pharmacist in the non-professional (non-judgmental) aspects of preparing and dispensing medication.
• Fills, packages, labels and stocks unit dose cart from patient profile card or computerized pick list; brings cart to nursing unit according to predetermined schedule. Makes other deliveries, as required.
• Fills bottles or other package forms with measured amount of medication either manually or mechanically.
• Labels containers of drugs according to department specification, either manually or mechanically.
• Assists in clean air room, using sterile technique in filling and labeling injectable prescriptions, where required.
• Assists in preparation and/or labeling of IV additives.
• Fills medication orders in inpatient area.
• Responsible for extemporaneous medication packaging, as required.
• Assists Registered Pharmacist in maintaining a variety of records and reports.
• Maintains IV records with Pharmacist direction.
• Maintains records for medication in inpatient area.
• Maintains records of preparation of extemporaneous medications.
• Assists in the maintenance of statistics and records for all medication orders.
• Enters orders into computer terminal for refill purposes.
• Maintains sufficient inventory at workstations in Pharmacy.
• Transports required pharmacy material, as necessary.
• Receives and maintains records of stock and inventory control.
• Assists in material control by maintaining records and inventories.
• Maintains placement of sufficient daily inventory of supplies to all areas of Pharmacy to assure efficient operating conditions.
• Performs related duties, as required.

Job Qualification

• High School Diploma or equivalent, required.
• Graduate of a recognized Pharmacy Technician Training Program OR Equivalent hospital pharmacy experience, required.
• Current national certification through Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB)/National Healthcare Association (NHA), required when hired on/after 3/1/21.
• Current license as a registered pharmacy technician in NYS, required when hired on/after 4/25/21.
• Minimum of two (2) years experience as a Pharmacy Technician, required. Experience in a hospital pharmacy with a computerized system, preferred.
• Ability to learn computerized hospital pharmacy system, required.
• Ability to do physically strenuous work, required.
