Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Perform duties of Pharmacy Technician I and assist with sterile compounding as needed.
  • Advance automation functions, maintenance of dispensing cabinets, carousel ops, labeling support.
  • Support inventory management, discrepancy resolution, and billing corrections.
  • Assist with training and competency development of staff, students, and learners.
  • Participate in quality improvement, medication safety, and regulatory readiness.

Job description

BASIC PURPOSE OF THE JOBProvides advanced technical support under the direct supervision of a pharmacist. Responsibilities include medication preparation, medication distribution, sterile compounding as applicable, inventory management, pharmacy automation, medication billing, quality improvement activities, and training of pharmacy personnel. Pharmacy Technician II builds upon foundational technician competencies while demonstrating increased independence and technical proficiency in preparation for advancement to Pharmacy Technician III.REPORTS TOPharmacy Coordinator or Pharmacy ManagerJOB REQUIREMENTSMinimum Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred.License/Certification Required: Registration with the Tennessee Board of Pharmacy required within 90 days of employment. Active, approved national pharmacy technician certification required at hire.Minimum Work Experience: Minimum one (1) year of pharmacy technician experience. Health system pharmacy experience preferred.Preferred Qualifications:Health system pharmacy experience.Experience with sterile compounding.Experience utilizing automated medication distribution systems and electronic health records.Demonstrated commitment to professional development and advancement within the pharmacy technician career ladder.REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIESIntermediate knowledge of pharmacy operations and medication distribution processes.Proficiency with pharmacy automation, technology systems, and inventory management.Knowledge of sterile compounding practices applicable to assigned responsibilities.Ability to prioritize competing responsibilities while maintaining accuracy.Effective communication and interpersonal skills.Ability to mentor and train pharmacy technicians and learners.Demonstrates professionalism, accountability, sound operational judgment, and a commitment to continuous improvement.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESPerforms all duties and responsibilities of Pharmacy Technician I.Performs sterile compounding, when applicable, in accordance with USP standards, departmental procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements.Performs advanced pharmacy automation and technology functions, including automated dispensing cabinet maintenance, carousel operations, barcode and labeling support, and related system troubleshooting.Performs advanced inventory management activities, discrepancy resolution, billing corrections, and medication distribution support.Assists with training, orientation, and competency development of pharmacy technicians, interns, students, and other assigned personnel.Participates in departmental quality improvement, medication safety, workflow optimization, and regulatory readiness initiatives.Demonstrates increased technical proficiency while supporting efficient pharmacy operations across assigned practice areas.Maintains compliance with applicable laws, regulations, accreditation standards, departmental policies, and organizational procedures.Collaborates effectively with pharmacists, providers, nursing staff, patients, and other healthcare professionals to resolve medication distribution and operational issues.Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned in support of departmental and organizational objectives.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS-Note: Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position.Light lifting, pushing and pulling is required for 10-20 lbs occasionally and frequent moving of objects of less than 10 lbs is required. Frequent sitting with some walking, standing, squatting, bending and reaching is required.
