Job summary

Dolly Parton Children's Hospital is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to support the pharmacy team under pharmacist supervision. You will prepare medications for dispensing, maintain stock, handle record keeping and billing, and assist with patient medication reconciliation.

Responsibilities include accurate compounding, unit-dose labeling, inventory restock, and clear communication with Nursing and Pharmacy staff. Prior hospital experience preferred and TN licensure requirements apply.

• Trains new Interns or Technicians when assigned.
• Promotes professional relationships with other departments and staff.
• Answers the phone promptly and maintains professional environment.

State Board approved Technician Certification for CPhT status requiredMinimum Work Experience: 12 months of previous pharmacy experience required; hospital pharmacy experience preferredREQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIESBasic computer and typing skillsBasic math skillsDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESAll under the direct supervision of a pharmacist who is beyond his or her probationary period:Demonstrates proficiency with math calculations. Prepares/selects age appropriate medication for compounding, filling, and dispensing. Provides a double or triple check to Pharmacists prior to dispensing. Prepackages and labels medications into unit doses from bulk supply. Maintains accurate records including all regulatory logs. Appropriately prioritizes medication orders. Ensures equipment operation and maintenance. Compounded non-sterile preparations. Appropriate use of automated dispensing cabinets and the Pharmacy carousel including discrepancy resolution & billing adjustments. Demonstrates clean and organized work flow. Follows policy concerning medications with “special” requirements.
