Responsibilities
- In accordance with state and federal regulations, assist the pharmacist under direct supervision in the practice of pharmacy. Assist with other Pharmacy Department duties in line with Company policies and procedures.
- Use pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information, process prescriptions. If PTCB certified, assist with and coach technicians in operating pharmacy systems and cashiers in operating the pharmacy cash registers.
- Model and deliver a distinctive and delightful customer experience.
Customer Experience
- Greet customers and patients, offer assistance with products and services, resolve issues, and answer questions to ensure a positive experience.
- Share customer service best practices with the team to deliver a distinctive experience, including courteous interpersonal habits and Walgreens service traits.
- Develop strong relationships with valuable customers.
Operations
- Under pharmacist supervision, assist in pharmacy duties in accordance with policy; review and comply with the Walgreens Pharmacy Code of Conduct.
- Assist with entering patient and drug information, ensuring accuracy; fill prescriptions by retrieving, counting, and pouring medications; verify accuracy and check for interactions; assist with scheduling and workflow.
- Report prescription errors immediately to the pharmacist on duty and follow Company policies regarding pharmacy errors and the Quality Improvement Program.
- Adhere to Good Faith Dispensing policies during applicable prescription dispensing activities.
- Register related sales on the assigned cash register, handle cash as required, and assist customers in locating products.
- Handle non-technical telephone calls, including those to physicians.
- Process (correct and resubmit) manual claims for third-party prescription services and perform other clerical duties as assigned.
- Assist and support Inventory management activities, including ordering, unpacking, checking, and storing shipments; maintain asset protection knowledge and file claims for discrepancies.
- May assist pharmacists in administering clinical services and coordinating clinical services with Walgreens clinics and external providers.
- Help maintain positive relationships with the local medical community through outreach and coordination with health groups, retirement facilities, and other forums.
- Support department cleanliness and organization; comply with company policies and maintain respectful coworker relationships.
- Complete special assignments and other tasks as assigned.
Training & Personal Development
- Earn and maintain PTCB certification through the designated training program and/or state certification/registration; otherwise, certification may be required for promotion to senior technician.
- Attend training requested by the Manager and pursue continuing education in healthcare and pharmacy.
Basic Qualifications
- Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English (except in Puerto Rico).
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prefer six months of experience in a retail environment.
- Prefer prior work experience with Walgreens.
- Prefer good math skills for accurate prescription filling, including counting, measuring, and weighing medications.
- Prefer good computer skills.
- Prefer knowledge of store inventory control.
- Prefer PTCB certification.
