Job summary

Duties/Responsibilities
  • Assist in the preparation of irrigation and intravenous admixture solutions using aseptic technique (must perform repetitive hand motions for IV Room assignments and pre‑packing).
  • Fill unit dose, Automated Dispensing Machines (ADM), stock requisitions and maintain inventory levels in OR, Endo & OB.
  • Deliver unit dose, ADM refills, intravenous solution and necessary pharmaceutical supplies to the nursing units (must walk and/or stand for the assigned shift).
  • Fill medication labels, subject to final check by a pharmacist.
  • Prepare pre‑packaged medications in commonly used quantities.
  • Assist with inventory control of supplies and medications: receive and shelve supplies and medications, perform cycle counts and monthly review of stock for expired medications.
  • Clean pharmacy equipment, utensils and work areas.

Education/Experience Required
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Must have passed the Board of Pharmacy Technician Registration exam and meet all requirements of Pharmacy Technician Trainee.
  • Must know basic IV admixture processes and sterile procedures.
  • Must have good math, computer and communication skills.
  • Must have a clear understanding of medication names (brand and generic), common dosing and sig codes, and medical terminology.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
Registration/Certification
  • Must be registered by the Massachusetts Board of Pharmacy as a Technician.
  • Current PTCB certification or completion of two years of pharmacy school.
  • Must maintain license from the Board of Pharmacy and meet continuing education requirements for PTCB.
Physical/Environmental Requirements

This job requires frequent bending, carrying, pulling, pushing, reaching, standing, stooping, walking and lifting over 10 lbs. There will be an occasional need to climb stairs, lift in excess of 50–100 lbs and sit. Constant use of hearing, sight and speech, frequent use of smell and touch, frequent keyboard and telephone use, and constant concentration and problem solving are required.

Pay Range

$20.59 – $36.45 per hour. This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement. The pay range listed is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Employees hired into this position will receive compensation consistent with the terms of the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
