Job Overview

The Pharmacy Technician assists in providing pharmaceutical services under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist. Responsibilities include performing technical, clerical, and manipulative tasks involved in dispensing, preparing, and distributing medications and pharmaceutical products for all patient groups, including geriatrics, adults, adolescents, pediatrics, and neonates. Work shall conform to established hospital policies and procedures.

Qualifications

Required:

• High School Diploma or GED

Preferred:

• Pharmacy experience
• Associates or Bachelor's degree
• PTCB certification

Certifications and Licenses

• Must obtain Pharmacy Technician credential in NJ within 120 days if no prior experience
• Must obtain credential at hire if prior experience
• Registration in NJ within 180 days of employment

Scheduling Requirements

• Shift rotation: 7:00am - 3:30pm, 12:00pm - 8:00pm, 3:00pm - 11:00pm
• Weekday availability with every other weekend rotation
• Holiday rotation
• Per Diem

Essential Functions

• Communicates effectively with the pharmacy team and healthcare practitioners
• Completes cart fill sheets, stock out sheets, and floor stock sheets
• Performs daily cassette exchanges, checks for outdated or discontinued medications, and delivers medications to units
• Prepares medications for dispensing, maintains the unit dose system, performs dosage calculations, and labels appropriately
• Assists in restocking emergency trays, prepares IV medications aseptically, and repackages medications into unit dose packages
• Documents activities in pharmacy software
• Maintains cleanliness and safety of the work area and equipment
• Receives, checks, and stocks incoming vendor orders
• Fills automated dispensing cabinets and delivers medications to machines accurately
• Maintains knowledge of pharmacy practices, including calculations, IV preparations, and conversions
• Willing to work rotating schedules and adhere to policies
• Completes departmental competencies and participates in staff training
• Provides educational rotations for pharmacy students
• Performs other duties as assigned
