Job summary

PIH Health Downey Hospital is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to perform non-judgmental tasks related to preparing and dispensing medications under supervision. You will support the pharmacy team with accurate distribution and maintain professional conduct in a dynamic hospital environment.

Requirements include a California Pharmacy Technician license, high school or GED, and hospital experience or internship.

Qualifications

• Proficient command of medical and pharmaceutical terminology.
• Strong English reading/writing skills.
• Experience with hospital pharmacy workflow preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and dispense medications under supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
• Maintain ethical, professional behavior and accurate distribution of medications.
• Complete projects assigned by the Pharmacy Technician Supervisor or Director of Pharmacy in a timely manner.
• Transport medications throughout patient care areas as needed.

Job description

Perform all the non-judgmental aspects of preparing and dispensing medications under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist. Maintain an ethical, professional behavior that ensures efficient, accurate, timely distribution and control of medications dispensed through the pharmacy. Maintain and reflect a positive attitude representing the pharmacy department as well as the entire hospital. He/she shall complete projects assigned by the Pharmacy Technician Supervisor or Director of Pharmacy in a timely manner.

Required Skills

• Possess a proficient level of computer and verbal/written communication skills,
• Ability to prioritize.
• Able to effectively read, write, and speak English fluently.
• Perform pharmaceutical calculations accurately and independently.
• Possess knowledge or experience in IV preparation, aseptic technique, and data entry.
• Minimum typing skills of 40 words per minute (wpm).
• Able-bodied to transport medications throughout all patient care areas on as deemed necessary.

Required Experience

Required:

• Proficient command of the English language and knowledge of medical and pharmaceutical terminology.
• High School Graduate or GED
• Must be registered with the California State Board of Pharmacy as a Pharmacy Technician in good standing.
• One year of hospital experience or completion of a Pharmacy Technician Internship in an acute hospital setting.

Preferred:

• Graduate of an accredited Pharmacy Technician program.
• Previous experience as a Pharmacy Technician in the State of California
• Pharmacy Technician internship at PIH Health.
