Job Summary
Prepare, compound, dispense medications, and perform other technical duties in the pharmacy department under direct supervision of a Pharmacist. Must demonstrate competency through supervised observation and/or any other necessary annual required competencies. Must be proficient in all responsibilities and duties of a certified pharmacy technician.

Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions

  • Medication Distribution: Prepare medications and/or IV for dispensing, select correct medication, correct strength, and correct form. Fill, label, and initial medication bag for pharmacist verification.
  • Bulk Dispense: Fill multiple patient-specific medications following department procedures.
  • Transportation: Deliver bulk fill, first dose, and missing doses securely to appropriate units, maintaining patient confidentiality.
  • Missing Doses: Generate label, fill, check with pharmacist, and dispense to appropriate floor/unit upon request.
  • Product Preparation: Properly prepare, measure, and count medications including compound ointments, creams, oral solutions, solids, IV, etc. (ADC).
  • User Management: Add new users to the ADC system accurately.
  • Product Management: Load ADC with correct medications post-verification, monitor par levels, and adjust as needed.
  • Reports: Generate reports to track, fill, and identify discrepancies.
  • Minor Maintenance: Troubleshoot minor ADC problems.
  • Restock: Fill medications, fluids, and stock as needed.
  • Recall: Assist in retrieving recalled medications.
  • Controlled Substances: Follow policies, procedures, and laws related to controlled medications.
  • IV Admixture & Aseptic Technique: Demonstrate knowledge of aseptic techniques, prepare small and large volume solutions, and specialty solutions like epidural, intrathecal, and chemotherapy when applicable.
  • Room Cleaning & Safety: Maintain clean environment, monitor temperature/humidity, and ensure safety standards are met.
  • Repackaging & Barcoding: Label all repackaged medications per regulations.
  • Customer Service & Documentation: Provide service to customers and healthcare professionals, process charges, and manage supplies and purchase orders.
  • Other Activities: Restock code carts/kits, perform inspections, track medication outdates, and mentor other pharmacy technicians.

Minimum Education: High school diploma or equivalent

Licenses & Certifications: Registered Pharmacy Tech, Cert Pharmacy Tech, Pharmacist Intern, licensed and in good standing with Georgia State Board of Pharmacy

Experience: Hospital pharmacy experience preferred; knowledge of pharmacy operations, automated dispensing, inventory management, medication interpretation, and law.

Skills: Basic computer skills, good communication, management, problem-solving, interpersonal skills, ability to lift 30 pounds and push 100-pound carts.
