Job Summary:
Prepare, compound, dispense medications, and perform other technical duties in the pharmacy department under the supervision of a Pharmacist. Demonstrate competency through supervised observation and annual required competencies. Proficient in all responsibilities of a certified pharmacy technician.
Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
- Medication Distribution:
- Single Dispense: Prepare medications and IVs for dispensing, select correct medication, strength, and form. Fill, label, and initial medication bags for pharmacist verification.
- Bulk Dispense: Fill multiple patient-specific medications following department procedures.
- Transportation: Deliver bulk fill, first dose, and missing doses securely to appropriate units, maintaining patient confidentiality.
- Missing Doses: Generate labels, fill, and have checked by a pharmacist before dispensing to the appropriate floor or unit.
- Product Preparation: Properly prepare, measure, and count medications including ointments, creams, oral solutions, solids, IVs, etc.
- ADC System: Add new users, load medications, monitor par levels, and generate reports.
- Minor Maintenance: Troubleshoot ADC issues.
- Restock: Fill medications, fluids, and stock as needed.
- Recall: Assist in retrieving recalled medications.
- Controlled Substances: Follow all policies and laws regarding controlled medications.
- IV Admixture: Demonstrate aseptic techniques, prepare small and large volume solutions, and sterile syringes, including chemotherapy when applicable.
- Room Cleaning and Safety: Maintain a clean environment and follow safety standards.
- Miscellaneous Activities: Repackaging, customer service, processing charges, ordering supplies, and inventory accountability.
- Code Carts/Kits: Restock and inspect regularly.
- Inspections and Tracking: Perform monthly inspections and out-of-date medication tracking.
- Mentoring: Train and mentor pharmacy technicians under lead supervision.
Minimum Education:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Licenses and Certifications:
- Registered Pharmacy Tech, Cert Pharmacy Tech, and Pharmacist Intern licenses required.
- Licensed and in good standing with the Georgia State Board of Pharmacy upon hire.
Experience:
Preferred hospital pharmacy experience and knowledge of pharmacy operations, automated dispensing cabinets, inventory management, medication interpretation, and Georgia pharmacy law.

- Ability to lift at least 30 pounds and push a cart of approximately 100 pounds.
