Description

Job Summary

The Medically Integrated Oncology Pharmacy Technician plays a critical role in our clinical care team by managing the fulfillment, financial navigation, and delivery of oral oncolytics and chemotherapeutics.

Operating directly within our physician-dispensing practice, you will work closely with oncologists, nurses, financial counselors, and external care teams to minimize delays in cancer treatment.

Under the direct supervision of the Dispensing Physician in Charge, you will utilize Epic EMR and Liberty Pharmacy One to ensure patients receive their specialized cancer therapies accurately, safely, and affordably.

The ideal candidate must demonstrate a high level of professionalism and a deeply empathetic, caring demeanor while serving patients and their families navigating complex cancer diagnoses.

Because you will manage independent workflows, you must be a self-motivated patient advocate highly dedicated to removing barriers to care.

Key Responsibilities

Physician-Supervised Dispensing: Accurately prepare, label, and package oral oncolytics and supportive care medications within Liberty Pharmacy One, working strictly under the authority and supervision of the Dispensing Physician in Charge.

Patient Advocacy & Care Coordination: Act as a dedicated champion for the patient, smoothing out logistical hurdles to ensure they receive critical medications without delay.

Collaboration: Work seamlessly with external teams to streamline specialty drug procurement, optimize inventory management, and leverage external care coordination resources.

Care Team Integration: Collaborate closely with oncologists, nurse navigators, and clinical staff by monitoring clinical notes and coordination workflows to synchronize oral therapies with IV treatment schedules and clinical labs.

Financial Navigation & Copay Assistance: Investigate oncology insurance benefits, assist with the coordination of complex prior authorizations (PAs), research foundations, manufacturer co-pay assistance or free-drug programs, to minimize patient’s financial burden.

Adherence & Refill Management: Proactively contact patients for scheduled refill reminders, confirm adherence to complex dosing cycles, and track patient-reported barriers to treatment, reporting all adherence updates to the dispensing physician.

Data Management & EHR Syncing: Maintain meticulous, dual-system documentation of treatment pathways, prior authorization status, and dispensing logs to ensure the pharmacy software and electronic medical records align perfectly.

Safe Handling & Inventory: Manage the specialized, high-cost inventory of oncology medications, ensuring proper storage, temperature tracking (refrigerated items), and strict compliance with hazardous waste disposal regulations (USP 800 standards).

Compassionate Communication: Provide an exceptional level of customer service, serving as a calm, reassuring touchpoint for vulnerable patients and their families during emotional or stressful times.

Cross-Training Opportunities: Retail Pharmacy, Internal Pharmacy, Chemotherapy Preparation, Allergen Immunotherapy Preparation

Schedule: Monday – Thursday 7:45 AM – 5:00 PM and Friday 7:45 – 12:00 PM

Experience: Minimum of 2 years of pharmacy experience, with strong preference given to backgrounds in oncology, specialty pharmacy, or prior authorization management.
