Position Summary

Pharmacy Technicians in Non-Sterile Compounding are essential to delivering high-quality, customized medications that support the health and well-being of patients nationwide. This role blends precision, safety, and collaboration to transform raw materials into life-changing therapies, directly advancing Empower Pharmacy’s mission to produce innovative medications and expand access to quality, affordable care. Duties and Responsibilities
  • Prepares compounded non-sterile preparations—such as creams, gels, capsules, and solutions—by accurately weighing, combining, and labeling hazardous and nonhazardous ingredients, including Drug Enforcement Administration controlled substances, in accordance with United States Pharmacopeia (USP) 795 and 800, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health standards.
  • Operates, cleans, and maintains non-sterile compounding equipment such as capsule fillers, ointment mills, and blister pack machines, documenting batch records and preventive maintenance to meet department goals.
  • Follows safety protocols using OSHA and American National Standards Institute compliant personal protective equipment for compounding and cleaning, aligned with Industrial Hygiene and Environmental Health and Safety guidelines.
  • Utilizes LifeFile, 503A Pharmacokinetics Compounder, Pestle, and Microsoft Office to support Good Documentation Practices and ensure compliance with Food and Drug Administration, USP, Texas State Board of Pharmacy, International Council for Harmonization of Technical Requirements for Pharmaceuticals for Human Use, and World Health Organization standards.
  • Collaborates with quality, research, and regulatory teams to optimize products, resolve production issues, support investigations and corrective actions, and ensure product purity, potency, and uniformity.

While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee is required to talk and hear. The employee is often required to remain in a stationary position for a significant amount of the workday and frequently use their hands and fingers to handle or feel in order to access, input, and retrieve information from the computer and other office productivity devices. The employee is regularly required to move about the office and around the corporate campus. The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.

Experience and Qualifications
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in nonsterile compounding, combining, admixing, diluting, pooling, reconstituting, packaging and labeling medications.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s degree in pharmaceutical sciences, chemistry, chemical or industrial engineering, pharmaceutics or industrial pharmacy is preferred.
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) or Technician Trainee license required; Pharmacy Technician Certification Board Nonsterile Compounding Certificate preferred; Lean Six Sigma White Belt preferred.
