Qualifications

Description

The Certified Pharmacy Technician prepares, under Mount Sinai Pharmacy guidelines, pharmaceutical orders for patient care areas, maintains adequate stock levels, reviews medical areas for expired drugs, maintains refrigeration temperature logs, and provides general assistance to pharmacists.

Responsibilities
  1. Fills medication orders accurately.
  2. Retrieves and delivers medication in a timely fashion.
  3. Maintains adequate stock levels in the pharmacy and avoids overstocking.
  4. Prepares/checks Urgent Use Stock orders for patient care areas accurately.
  5. Reviews medication areas for expired drugs promptly.
  6. Maintains medication refrigerator temperature logs in pharmacy areas and nursing units as assigned.
  7. Determines intravenous antibiotic needs of satellite units at shift start.
  8. Prepares Laminar Flow Hood for usage.
  9. Operates the Baxa pump.
  10. Reconstitutes antibiotic piggyback bottles with proper diluents aseptically.
  11. Defrosts frozen antibiotic intravenous mini-bags.
  12. Prepares antibiotic concentrate and adds aseptically to diluents mini-bags.
  13. Rotates antibiotic products to maximize expiration and disposes of expired products properly.
  14. Fills orders for satellites not involved with centralized IV program.
  15. Maintains a neat and hygienic area.
  16. Properly disposes of intravenous needles, tubing, and equipment.
  17. Assists in maintaining all required records.
  18. Provides general assistance to the pharmacist.
  19. Maintains inventory of intravenous supplies.
  20. Prepares pre-manufactured I.V.s with patient labels for pharmacist review.
  21. Delivers patient IVs to nursing units.
  22. Performs all related duties as required.
Qualifications
  • HS/GED; graduate of an approved pharmacy technician training program, or relevant experience, or an advanced degree (e.g., pharmacy degree from another country).
  • 1-2 years relevant hospital pharmacy technician experience preferred, IV experience preferred.

Collective bargaining unit: SEIU 1199-MSH.

Compensation

The hourly salary range for this role is $37.38. Actual compensation depends on experience, education, and operational needs. This does not include bonuses or other benefits.
