Job summary

Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center in Woodbridge, VA is hiring a Specialty Pharmacy Technician to join the ED support team. This full-time role features evening and weekend hours with a $5,000 sign-on bonus for qualified candidates and opportunities for compensation above base pay.

The technician will perform advanced tasks under pharmacist supervision, maintain supplies, train new staff, and ensure compliance with departmental and legal requirements while delivering safe patient care.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of pharmacy experience required.
• Prior customer service experience preferred.
• Virginia Pharmacy Tech License required; CPhT preferred.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates advanced technical skills and ownership of the work area.
• Works independently in defined specialized areas of pharmacy practice.
• Trains in advanced Specialist Pharmacy Technician functions.
• Assumes local/system responsibility for assigned tasks.
• Participates in training of new employees.
• Fills and delivers medications under pharmacist supervision.
• Ensures adequate supplies for continuous patient care.
• Triages and escalates questions outside the scope of practice.
• Uses appropriate systems for processing patient information.
• Maintains quality assurance per departmental and legal requirements.
• Operates pharmacy equipment.
• Additional duties as assigned.

Primarily evening and weekend coverage.

This position requires work with patients in the Emergency Department.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates advanced technical skills and ownership of the work area
• Demonstrates the ability to competently work independently in defined specialized areas of pharmacy practice
• Training in an advanced Specialist Pharmacy Technician job functions
• Assumes local and/or system responsibility for assigned tasks related to advanced specialist job positions
• Participates in the training of new employees
• Fills and delivers medications under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist/licensed independent practitioner as required by specialty position
• Ensures adequate supplies are available for continuous patient care
• Triages and escalates any questions or issues outside the pharmacy technician's scope of practice as needed
• Uses appropriate systems for processing patient information
• Ensures quality assurance is maintained according to departmental and legal requirements
• Operates pharmacy equipment appropriately
• Training in an advanced Specialist Pharmacy Technician job functions
• In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.
• A pharmacy technician license is required in the state of practice.

Compensation

We provide market-competitive compensation packages, inclusive of base pay, incentives, and benefits. The base pay range for full-time employment is $23.50 - $36.36 hourly. Additional compensation may be available for this role, such as shift differentials, on-call pay, overtime, shift premiums, extra-shift incentives, or bonus opportunities.
