Job summary

UMass Memorial Health is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to perform benefit investigations, submit prior authorizations, and document results in the patient chart. The role supports the Advanced Therapeutics Pharmacist and APP team while maintaining accurate inventory and facilitating prescription delivery.

The candidate should have MA license, national certification or be willing to obtain within 6 months, with at least one year of pharmacy experience and strong computer/math skills.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Current MA Board of Pharmacy license; PTCB or ExCPT certification required, or must become certified within 6 months of hire.
• Minimum of one year of related experience as a Pharmacy Technician.
• Proficient in math, and in using a computer; able to follow oral and written instructions clearly.

Responsibilities

• Completes benefit investigations when requested by Advanced Therapeutics PharmD and APP team and documents results in patient EMR.
• Submits prior authorizations to insurance via online or phone methods; appeals decisions as needed; follows up by phone.
• Advises on manufacturer patient savings opportunities and communicates information clearly to providers and patients.
• Performs follow-up calls to patients regarding insurance decisions, rejections, and prescription filling information.
• Maintains a perpetual inventory of medications from internal pharmacies and informs the clinic team daily.
• Coordinates prescription delivery with patient and Home Delivery pharmacy and queues prescriptions for delivery.
• Keeps a clean work area and assists in quality indicator monitoring.
• Participates in problem solving projects and Continuous Quality Improvement activities.

Appeal decisions as necessary and conduct follow up phone call inquiries to insurance.Knowledgeable in manufacturer patient savings opportunities and communicates information clearly and effectively to providers and patients.Performs follow up phone calls to patients as needed regarding insurance decisions, rejections, and prescription filling information.Maintains a perpetual inventory of appropriate medications from internal pharmacies and communicates to clinic team daily.Coordinates prescription delivery with patient and Home Delivery pharmacy and queues prescription up for home delivery team.Maintains a clean work area and assists in quality indicator monitoring.Participates in identifying problems or areas for improvement and assists manager with problem solving projects and improving operations; participates in Continuous Quality Improvement activities and/or teams.Position Qualifications:License/Certification/Education:Required:High school diploma or equivalent.Current license with the Massachusetts Board of Pharmacy.Certified by one of the national governing bodies such as Pharmacy Technician Certification Board PTCB, or the National Healthcareer Association ExCPT.
