Job summary

UMass Memorial Health is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to support the dispensing and delivery of medications under pharmacist supervision. Responsibilities include triaging requests, delivering meds to patient care areas, and assisting with inventory and IV room processes.

Required are a high school diploma or equivalent, MA Pharmacy Technician license, and board certification (NHA/PTCB). Excellent communication and English fluency are essential for coordinating with the care team.

Completes other tasks associated with drug distribution processes, automated dispensing systems, packaging, IV systems, training, and scheduling.I. Major Responsibilities:1. Answers telephone calls and triages requests from customers to the pharmacist staff.2. Triages window requests from customers.3. Delivers medications to the patient care areas and picks up copies of physician orders, return of medications, etc. Completes scheduled rounds on patient care areas.4. Assists with inventory management tasks which includes, but is not limited to, ensuring adequate inventory of supplies and materials, ordering, receiving and storing non-controlled medications from the wholesaler on a daily basis, storing medications in designated areas in the central pharmacy, IV room and anesthesia prep area, ensuring bin labels are visible and clear, segregating medications to appropriate storage bins, etc., and checking for expiration dating on medications on a consistent basis to assure medications do not leave pharmacy with short dating.5. Accurately packages unit dose medications with appropriate labeling information as outlined in policy and procedures to support Pharmacy distribution process including Pre-packing bulk medications and compounding ointments, creams, oral solutions, and other medications as needed.II. Position Qualifications:License/Certification/Education:Required:1. High School diploma or equivalent2. Massachusetts Pharmacy Technician license3. Certification from a Massachusetts Board of Pharmacy-approved certifying body (Nation Healthcareer Association, or Pharmacy Technician Certification Board)Experience/Skill:Required:1. Baseline understanding of automated dispensing systems, technology and IV room processes2. Strong attention to detail3. Ability to comply with all department and hospital policy and procedures4. Ability to effectively interact and problem solve with other team members of the pharmacy department5. Excellent customer service and communication skills6. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing7. Good interpersonal skills, especially related to health care colleagues8.
