Trinity Health is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to support a centralized prior authorization clinic in West Michigan, MI. Under a Registered Pharmacist, you will prepare and distribute medications, maintain records, and assist with third party claim adjudication.

The role requires MI Pharmacy Technician license (LPhT) and CPHT certification, 1+ year of pharmacy experience, and may involve training of students. Day shift, with no weekends or holidays, in a clinical ambulatory setting.

  • Licensed as a Pharmacy Technician in Michigan (LPhT) and nationally certified (CPhT).
  • Minimum one year of pharmacy work experience.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, package, and distribute medication orders per request.
  • Maintain drug inventory and patient records.
  • Complete third party adjudication for prescription claims.
  • Process prescriptions using a dispensing system and create patient profiles.
  • Handle insurance prior authorizations and related information.
  • Assist in training and evaluating pharmacy students/residents.
  • Provide excellent customer service and clear communication.

Employment Type: Full time Shift: Day Shift Description: Position Summary: The Pharmacy Technician will primarily support a centralized prior authorization clinic in West Michigan, MI. Pharmacy technician support involves resolving and appealing prior authorization claims from Trinity Health Medical Group. The technician may also support other ambulatory pharmacy clinics as needed.

What the Pharmacy Technician will Need:
  • Minimum High school education or equivalent.
  • Preferred completion of formal pharmacy technician training program.
  • Licensed as a Pharmacy Technician in the State of Michigan (LPhT) AND nationally certified as a Pharmacy Technician (CPhT).
  • Minimum One year of pharmacy work experience.
  • Prefer experience in multiple healthcare settings.
  • Prefer previous experience working within multi-disciplinary teams Transitioning a colleague into this increase in FTE Under the direction of a Registered Pharmacist, assists Pharmacists in preparing and distributing medications, maintaining drug inventory, and maintaining patient records. Provides courteous, cooperative, and timely service to patients, visitors, and staff.
Education
  • Minimum: High School education or equivalent.
  • Preferred: Completion of formal pharmacy technician training program.
Credentials/Licensure
  • Minimum: Pharmacy Technician License (issued by Michigan Licensing and Regulatory Affairs Bureau of Professional Licensing)
Related Experience
  • Preferred: 2+ years pharmacy work experience in outpatient pharmacy setting; billing experience.
  • Preferred: Certified Pharmacy Technician by Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB)
Essential Functions
  • Prepares, packages, and distributes medication orders per physician/pharmacist request, or prearranged work assignment in accordance with state and federal rules and regulations and established policies, procedures, or protocols.
  • Contributes to effective and quality operation of the department.
  • Maintains logs, records, and other required documentation, files documentation.
  • Completes third party adjudication for prescription claims.
  • Utilizes computerized prescription dispensing system to complete the following aspect of filling patient prescriptions:
    • Create patient profiles.
    • Prescription data input
    • Third party/insurance processing
    • Prescription refilling
  • Incoming and outbound calls with patients, provider teams and third parties.
  • Insurance prior authorizations; collects necessary information for submission.
  • Order packaging and scheduling deliveries.
  • Works Epic Multi-Step Order Transmittal work queue.
  • Perform simple pharmaceutical calculations including, but not limited to, days’ supply and weight-based dosing calculations.
  • Collect payments using point-of-sale system.
  • Participate in the training, education, precepting, and evaluation of pharmacy students and/or residents as assigned.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
