Summary of Job Duties: The Pharmacy Technician IV will work under the supervision of the pharmacist to provide excellent customer service to patients receiving specialty infusion medications. This technician will be responsible for the overall management of specialty infusion medications as related to coordinating with financial assistance teams, prior authorization teams, and scheduling teams.

Qualifications:

  • HS/GED plus 4 yrs Pharmacy Tech Experience or Bachelor's Degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences
  • Eligible for licensure or licensed pharmacy technician by the Arkansas State Board of Pharmacy
  • ASHP/ACPE-accredited technician training or certificate program.
  • PTCB National Certification

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree
  • 2+ years of UAMS pharmacy experience

Responsibilities:

  • Monitors prior authorizations for timely submission and processing for both pharmacy and medical benefits.
  • Coordinates and follows up on prior authorization submissions, financial assistance submissions, and patient scheduling if being handled by other UAMS personnel.
  • Ensures outstanding prior authorizations are monitored daily and communicates effectively with other UAMS personnel on outstanding prior authorizations when needed.
  • Ability to identify pertinent literature for appeals and help/teach others in this process.
  • Possesses a good understanding of all disease states.
  • Monitors outside infusions and coordinates with outside infusion centers as needed.
  • Audit documentation for presence and accuracy.
  • Monitors outstanding financial assistance and communicates effectively with other UAMS personnel on outstanding financial assistance to streamline timely patient access.
  • Promotes continuous patient communication throughout the patient journey, including completing infusion appointment reminder phone calls.
  • Refers all clinical issues to the pharmacist, always working within the pharmacy technician's scope of practice.
  • Participates in the training of staff.
  • Works in any disease state as needed.
  • Monitors the ACD and addresses gaps.
  • Uses appropriate walk-away codes.
  • Reports all gaps to the Director of Pharmacy.
  • Possesses advanced knowledge of the adjudication process and mitigates billing problems as they arise for specialty claims.
  • For each infusion, follow the patient through the revenue integrity cycle to ensure billing is completed and issues are resolved when needed.
  • Ensures patients have active insurance before each infusion and ensures prescription processing in a timely manner with a focus on patient safety and clean claims.
  • Assists others with adjudication issues and can teach the adjudication process.
  • Assists others once work is completed every day.
  • Ensures that prescriptions are accurately filled and that all necessary information, including payment, is in the work basket.
  • Works to enhance the workflow. Is responsible for improving documentation to enhance patient safety and outcomes.
  • Models professional communication with patients, providers, payers, and PBMs.
  • Works in any infusion disease state as needed.
  • Reports all gaps to the Director of Pharmacy.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.
