Job summary

Thomas Jefferson University Hospitals, Inc. is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to assist in inpatient and outpatient medication preparation, dispensing, inventory management and daily workflow support within a hospital setting.

The role requires PA RPT certification upon hire, a high school diploma or GED, and adherence to hospital policies. Training on IV preparation and Pyxis systems will be provided as part of onboarding.

Qualifications

• Must have High School Diploma or GED.
• RPT - Registered Pharmacy Technician - State of Pennsylvania Upon Hire.

Responsibilities

• Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and staff consistent with the values of Jefferson.
• Prepares drug orders from Physicians for review and dispensing by a Registered Pharmacist.
• Replenishes Pyxis machines; monitors refrigerator temperatures and documents corrective actions.
• Counts, compounds and repackages pharmaceuticals using established procedures.
• Medication dispensing and distribution to patient areas; restock of pharmacy inventory and checks for expired medications.
• Performs billing/crediting to ensure proper billing of medications and documents waste.
• Picks up Physician orders from team centers and assists the Pharmacist.
• Performs light housekeeping duties: organizing bins, shelves, and cleaning work areas.
• Replenishes specialty and code carts with documented sign-out.
• Uses aseptic techniques to prepare IVs and transports IVs to the nursing floor.
• Maintains competencies related to IV lab, Pyxis, McKesson Automation and CAPS.
• Reviews inspections bi-monthly and ensures proper storage and expiration checks.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
