Job summary

Akron Children’s Hospital is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to support the inpatient pharmacy team in Akron, OH. The technician will assist the pharmacist with medication preparation and distribution, fill orders for patients, and ensure timely delivery to nursing units.

This full-time role requires a clean driving record and eligibility for hospital insurance. Responsibilities include IV and oral preparation, cart refills, unit-dose packaging, stock management, and on-site transport.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Certification/Registration as a Ohio Pharmacy Technician or Registered Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Technician Trainee/Intern required; must convert trainee license within 12 months if not nationally certified.
• 0–2 years of relevant experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Fills medication orders by reviewing labels and preparing correct medication and label for pharmacist check.
• Refills patient carts with a 24-hour supply of medication.
• Prepares oral syringes of patient medications.
• Prepares intravenous medications, including chemotherapy.
• Delivers medication to nursing units.
• Stocks medication in automated dispensing units.
• Repackages bulk medication into unit-dose packages.
• Performs medication inspections and removes outdated stock.
• Answers calls and assists nurses with medication supply issues.
• Transports medication to offsite locations when needed.
• Work the primary shift and any other shift at any location.

Summary:

The Pharmacy Technician assists the pharmacist with preparation and distribution of medications. The technician helps fill orders for patients and ensures they are delivered to the correct nursing unit.

Responsibilities:

1. Fills medication orders by reviewing the medication label, obtaining the correct type and quantity of medication and placing the medication with the label for the pharmacist to check.
2. Refills patient medication carts with a 24-hour supply of medication.
3. Prepares oral syringes of patient medication.
4. Prepares intravenous medication, including chemotherapy
5. Delivers medication to nursing units.
6. Stocks medication in automated medication dispensing units.
7. Repackages bulk medication into unit-of-use packages.
8. Performs medication inspections and removes outdated medication from stock.
9. Answers the telephone and assists nurses with medication supply issues.
10. Transports medication to offsite locations using hospital vehicle.
11. Must be able to work primary shift and any other shift at any location.
12. Other duties as required.

Other information:

Technical Expertise

1. Prior experience as a pharmacy technician is preferred.
2. Prior IV medication Preparation experience preferred.
3. Must have a clean driving record and be able to be insured on the hospital auto insurance plan.

Education and Experience

1. High School diploma or equivalent required.
2. Certification: Registration as a “Certified Ohio Pharmacy Technician” or “Registered Pharmacy Technician” or “Pharmacy Technician Trainee” or “Pharmacy Intern” required. Any non-intern candidate who has not passed a national certification must do so within 12 months and must convert a trainee license to a certified license within 12 months.
3. Years of relevant experience: 0 to 2 years is preferred
4. Years of experience supervising: none
5. Possesses a valid Statedriver's license and ability to obtain and maintain insurability as determined by the ACH insurance carrier's requirements.
6. An annual physical is required to be completed with the Akron Children's Hospital Employee Health Department.
