Job Description:
- Filling Orders: Fills orders accurately and promptly for the pharmacist to check and dispense. Prepares extemporaneous preparations accurately. Routinely stocks all areas. Replenishes all carts, trays, boxes, and kits accurately. Legibly signs all paperwork associated with these processes. Notes problems on patient profiles for the pharmacist to follow up on when necessary. Performs cart/bin exchanges transferring bulk medications when necessary, returning unused/discontinued IVs/medications, checking dating on multiple dose medications, and replacing medications/supplies when needed.
- Distribution/Returns: Handles requests via phone, window, fax, and computer in a professional and timely manner. Distributes orders to the appropriate pharmacist for processing when necessary. Delivers medications to specified areas via pneumatic tubes, hand-delivery, and courier to expedite services. Brings back and sorts returns from nursing stations.
- Teamwork: Supports departmental goals by assisting staff members, being flexible in roles, and responsibilities. Complies with coverage guidelines. Supports Atlantic Health strategic goals.
- Sterile Preparations: Prepares IVs aseptically and timely. Reviews IV medication levels, documents information, and ensures batches are checked and stored promptly. Demonstrates knowledge of IV equipment, sterile technique, and safe handling of hazardous drugs. Signs all related paperwork.
- Automated Dispensing Machine: Fills machines accurately, addresses stock issues, removes expired medications, and performs reconciliation. Resolves equipment problems, performs inspections, and signs related documentation.
- Repackaging/Inventory Control: Repackages medications, checks expirations, manages recalls, and signs paperwork.
- Performance Improvement/Customer Satisfaction: Handles communication courteously, participates in improvement initiatives, and maintains professionalism with patients and staff.
- Education/Training: Completes training, participates in education programs, and maintains professional competency.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Hospital Pharmacy experience preferred
- IV and Oncology experience highly preferred
- PTCB or NHA certification active or to be acquired within 6 months
- Current active registration with the NJ State Board of Pharmacy required
