Job summary

Northwestern Medicine is seeking a Pharmacy Technician III-Central Operations to support inpatient and outpatient dispensing on a rotating shift basis. Under a registered pharmacist's supervision, you will handle unit-dose, sterile products, IV admixtures, narcotics, and inventory management on the Prentice 10th floor pharmacy.

The role requires a High School Diploma and a CPhT certification; newly licensed technicians have 2 years to obtain certification.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma required.
• CPhT certification required for those licensed after 2008; newly licensed technicians have 2 years from license effective date to obtain certification.
• Preferred: Completion of a Technician Training Program.
• Preferred: Previous experience as a Pharmacy Technician.

Responsibilities

• Prepares medication orders for inpatients.
• Prepares prescriptions for outpatients.
• Picks up orders and delivers medications to nursing units.
• Schedules intravenous admixture solutions per patient record and reports variances to a pharmacist.
• Enters new drug orders and renewal information into the computerized patient medication profile.
• Uses the computer system to assist in all dispensing and inquiry functions.
• Maintains inventory in the dispensing areas and reconciles discrepancies.
• Packages extemporaneous and STAT doses under supervision of a pharmacist.
• Prepares sterile products and cytotoxic agents for administration.
• Performs narcotics/perpetual inventories as directed.
