Job summary

Diagnostic Laboratory Services, Inc. is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to support inpatient pharmacy operations under pharmacist supervision. You will fill routine orders, pre-pack medications, manage floor stock and prepare medications for automated dispensing.

Candidates should have Hawaii State registration, and completion of a recognized Pharmacy Technician program (PTCB/ASHP) or three months of work experience in the role. Proficiency with computers and Word is required.

Qualifications

• Hawaii State certificate of registration as a Pharmacy Technician required.
• PTCB or ASHP accredited Pharmacy Technician Training Program; or three months of work experience as a Pharmacy Technician may substitute for education.

Responsibilities

I. JOB SUMMARY

• Under the direct supervision of a Pharmacist, performs technical functions in the inpatient pharmacy, including but not limited to, filling routine orders, pre-packing medications, managing floor stock and preparing medications for automated dispensing.
• May be trained to compound sterile products or manage controlled medications.
• Performs duties in accordance with departmental and Medical Center policies and procedures.

III. TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS

• Not substantially subjected to adverse environmental conditions.
• Some exposure to cold temperature from freezer.
• Exposure to noise/vibration from air conditioner, and office/pharmacy equipment.
• Exposure to body fluids, chemicals, some contact with patients with communicable diseases.
• May be required to work with hazardous drugs, depending upon area of assignment.
• Work environment is fast paced, congested and may be stressful.

IV. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A. EDUCATION

• High School diploma or equivalent.

B. CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE

• Current Hawaii State certificate of registration as a Pharmacy Technician.
• Certificate of completion from a Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) recognized or American Society of Health-System Pharmacy (ASHP) accredited Pharmacy Technician Training Program; or three (3) months of work experience as a Pharmacy Technician may be substituted for the education requirement.

C. EXPERIENCE

• Hospital technician training and work experience preferred.
• Experience to demonstrate effective interpersonal and communication skills.
• Proficiency in computers and word processing applications, i.e. Microsoft Word.
