Job summary

Kaiser Permanente in Virginia is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to greet members, enter prescription data into the system, and handle payments while preparing medications for pharmacist review. Required: at least 1 year as a Pharmacy Technician, Virginia licenses, and completion of a pharmacy technician program.

Qualifications

• Minimum one year of experience as a Pharmacy Technician.
• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Pharmacist Intern License (Virginia) OR Pharmacy Technician License (Virginia) AND Pharmacy Technician Certificate; license in DC/MD within 6 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Greets members at counter or over the telephone and verifies eligibility; receives prescriptions.
• Handles prescriptions entries and prepares medications for pharmacist approval.
• Shifts are rotating: 7:30AM-4:00PM, 4:00PM-12:00AM and 12:00AM-8:00AM.

Greets members at front desk, enters information about prescriptions into computer system, receives payment from members, and prepares medications for approval by pharmacist. May perform the duties of a Pharmacy Inventory Technician or a Pharmacy Admixture Technician.

Essential Responsibilities:

• Greets members at counter or over the telephone, verifies members eligibility status and receives prescriptions from members for pharmaceuticals.

This is a rotating shift. Shifts are 7:30AM-4:00PM, 4;00PM-12:00AM AND 12:00AM - 8:00AM due to business needs

Basic Qualifications:

Experience

• Minimum one (1) year of experience as a Pharmacy Technician required.

Education

• High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.

License, Certification, Registration

• Pharmacist Intern License (Virginia)

OR

• Pharmacy Technician License (Virginia) AND Pharmacy Technician Certificate

• Pharmacy Technician License (District of Columbia) within 6 months of hire
  

• Pharmacy Technician License (Maryland) within 6 months of hire
  

• Exam for Certification of Pharmacy Technicians from National Healthcareer Association
  

Additional Requirements:

• Knowledge of medical terminology, generic drug names, pharmaceutical calculations, and ability to assume responsibility for coordinating drug inventory control in medical clinics.
• Proficiency in the use of applicable computer software.
• Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
• Working knowledge of hospital computer systems.
• Working knowledge of hospital related medications.
• Data entry and spreadsheet development.
• Must be able to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Successful completion of an accredited pharmacy technician training program or US Military program preferred.
