Pharmacy Technician II

The Prior Authorization (PA) technician is responsible for facilitating the process of obtaining prior-authorization for take-home medications and assisting patients with enrolling into available patient assistance programs. The PA Tech receives requests for obtaining prior authorization for medications requiring approval or for patients to be enrolled into patient assistance programs. They are responsible for verifying prescription benefits, entering details into EPIC, completing necessary processes to obtain authorization or enrollment, and communicating with the ordering team, the patient, and the pharmacy about the status and outcome of requests. They coordinate appeals of rejected prescription requests and provide education to the team regarding strategies to avoid denials. They follow existing processes and the Standard Operating Procedure developed for this position.

  • Support the efforts of all care providers to deliver quality care.
  • Demonstrate competence appropriate to your role and function in the delivery of age-specific care.
  • Deliver service in a manner consistent with the scope of practice of the discipline and the standards established by City of Hope, as expressed in the plans for provision of care and policies and procedures.
  • Act proactively using effective decision-making skills.
  • Understand all professional and regulatory standards.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to provide sound decision-making.
  • Communicate effectively with all customers and colleagues to meet organizational goals.
  • Maintain current knowledge, skills, and competencies through involvement in professional continuing education activities.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent, or post-high school vocational/specialized training, or graduation from a foreign school of Pharmacy.
  • Three or more years of performing related duties as a pharmacy technician.
  • Licensed as a Pharmacy Technician with the California State Board of Pharmacy.
