Job Overview

Become part of a world-class academic healthcare system, UChicago Medicine, as a Pharmacy Technician II in the Inpatient Pharmacy. In this role, you will prepare medications and supplies for dispensing under pharmacist supervision, rotating through all pharmacy department areas. Our department supports and provides direct patient care to diverse patient populations, especially in complex cases requiring specialized knowledge and collaboration with medical providers and insurance companies.

Responsibilities

• Transport medications, IVs, TPNs, chemotherapy, and pharmacy supplies to nursing units and clinics. Restock and manage medications in Omnicell machines, prioritize STAT orders, and assist in medication distribution in pharmacist absence.
• Prepare medications for dispensing, including prepackaging, compounding IVs, chemotherapy, biologics, and pediatric medications. Maintain inventories, stock shelves, and assist in training new staff.
• Perform quality assurance, ensure compliance with policies and laws, and handle outpatient prescriptions and cashiering duties as needed.
• Maintain work areas, perform inspections, and ensure proper documentation and record-keeping.

Qualifications

• Current Illinois Pharmacy Technician License
• High School Diploma or GED
• At least one year of pharmacy experience, completion of an ASHP-approved course, or enrollment in a pharmacy program
• Ability to work collaboratively, communicate effectively, and demonstrate attention to detail
• Familiarity with pharmacy practices, medications, record keeping, and computer skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Illinois Pharmacy Technician Certification
