Job summary

Fairview Health Services seeks a Pharmacy Technician II to support day-to-day pharmacy services in a complex medical environment. Under the pharmacist, you will process orders, dispense medications, and assist in sterile compounding as needed.

You will collaborate with care teams to ensure safe, accurate medication delivery, maintain clean rooms and IV equipment, and participate in QA and training activities. Strong communication and teamwork are essential.

Qualifications

  • High School or equivalent is required.
  • Less than 1 year pharmacy technician experience in a complex environment.
  • Pharmacy Technician MN Current or pending registration with the MN board of pharmacy.
  • Pharmacy Technician Nationally certified or certifiable (PTCB/ExCPT) within 1-1/2 years.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with care providers and pharmacists to ensure accurate, safe medication delivery.
  • Process prescriptions/orders from EMR or with the computer system, and dispense per requirements.
  • Maintain IV hoods/isolators and clean room per specs and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate medication, supply and equipment delivery to patients and clinical areas.
  • Participate in regulatory, QA, and process improvement activities and projects.
  • Support training of new trainees.

Job Overview

Under the direction of the Pharmacist, the Pharmacy Technician II is responsible for day-to-day comprehensive pharmacy technician services in a complex medical environment. This may include unit dose dispensing technology and sterile medication compounding. The Pharmacy Technician II will skillfully use interpersonal, customer service, problem solving and collaboration skills to support and influence operational objectives.

Responsibilities
  • Partner with care providers and pharmacists to ensure that patient receives the needed medication accurately, safely, in accordance with all legal requirements and policies and in a professional and timely manner.
  • Under the direction of the pharmacist, receive prescription/orders from electronic medical record, process manually or using the appropriate computer system and protocols, prepare drug therapy and/or dispense medication in an accurate and timely manner in accordance with all legal, regulatory agency and Fairview requirements.
  • Maintain the IV hoods or isolators, clean room, ante room according to manufacturer’s specifications and regulatory requirements as applicable.
  • Coordinate ordering, delivery of medications, supplies and equipment to patients and clinical areas as requested.
  • Participate in regulatory, quality assurance and process improvement activities and other projects as assigned.
  • Support the training of new trainees.
Required Qualifications
  • High School or equivalent
  • less than 1 year pharmacy technician experience in a complex pharmacy or healthcare environment.
  • Pharmacy Technician MN Current or pending registration with the MN board of pharmacy
  • Pharmacy Technician Natl Nationally certified or become certified Certifying exams must have National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) accreditation, with examples including, Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) exam and The Exam for Certification of Pharmacy Technicians (ExCPT). within 1-1/2 Yrs
Preferred Qualifications
  • Completion of an American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) accredited pharmacy technician training program
  • 1 year pharmacy technician experience in a complex pharmacy or healthcare environment.
