Fairview Health Services in Burnsville, MN is seeking a Pharmacy Technician II to support day-to-day pharmacy operations in a complex medical environment. Under pharmacist supervision, you will assist in unit dose dispensing, prepare medications, and contribute to safe, accurate medication handling.

This role emphasizes teamwork, adherence to regulatory requirements, and opportunities to train new staff, with a schedule of day/evening shifts and every-other weekend.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Less than 1 year of pharmacy technician experience in a complex setting.
  • MN Pharmacy Technician registration current or pending.
  • National certification (PTCB or ExCPT) within 1-1.5 years.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with care providers and pharmacists to ensure safe, accurate medication delivery.
  • Process prescriptions from electronic medical records or by manual entry in system per policies.
  • Maintain clean rooms and IV hoods per specifications and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate medication, supply, and equipment delivery to patients and units.
  • Participate in quality assurance, regulatory, and process-improvement activities.
  • Assist in training new technicians.

Job Overview

Location: Fairview Ridges Hospital, Burnsville MN

Hours: 48 hours bi-weekly

Schedule: day/evening, every other weekend

Under the direction of the Pharmacist, the Pharmacy Technician II is responsible for day-to-day comprehensive pharmacy technician services in a complex medical environment. This may include unit dose dispensing technology and sterile medication compounding. The Pharmacy Technician II will skillfully use interpersonal, customer service, problem solving and collaboration skills to support and influence operational objectives.

Responsibilities
  • Partner with care providers and pharmacists to ensure that patient receives the needed medication accurately, safely, in accordance with all legal requirements and policies and in a professional and timely manner.
  • Under the direction of the pharmacist, receive prescription/orders from electronic medical record, process manually or using the appropriate computer system and protocols, prepare drug therapy and/or dispense medication in an accurate and timely manner in accordance with all legal, regulatory agency and Fairview requirements.
  • Maintain the IV hoods or isolators, clean room, ante room according to manufacturer’s specifications and regulatory requirements as applicable.
  • Coordinate ordering, delivery of medications, supplies and equipment to patients and clinical areas as requested.
  • Participate in regulatory, quality assurance and process improvement activities and other projects as assigned.
  • Support the training of new trainees.
Required Qualifications
  • High School or equivalent
  • less than 1 year pharmacy technician experience in a complex pharmacy or healthcare environment.
  • Pharmacy Technician MN Current or pending registration with the MN board of pharmacy
  • Pharmacy Technician Natl Nationally certified or become certified Certifying exams must have National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) accreditation, with examples including, Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) exam and The Exam for Certification of Pharmacy Technicians (ExCPT). within 1-1/2 Yrs
Preferred Qualifications
  • Completion of an American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) accredited pharmacy technician training program
  • 1 year pharmacy technician experience in a complex pharmacy or healthcare environment.
